@dragonspartan9031 how many get that though? Most do not have symptoms. Same as with death, what is the health status of those who get scarring lungs? You are ignoring so many variables. Also, the virus is here to stay, most are moving on in life.

We have gone too far with this. Most who are infected have no symptoms. Almost all who died with covid would have been dead in the same timeframe to begin with based on many objective measures.

@TheHuxleyAgnostic there is no consensus with scientist and doctors on covid. When you have Fauci saying he is "the science" and he is the main guy the media look to despite how awful he has been in handling this "pandemic" says a lot. There are scientists and doctors that feel we took the wrong approach. And consider this, look at the NFL and how 95% of the league is vaccinated and they recently had an outbreak. Or how we have a vaccine now but now are approaching case numbers similar to what we had last year. It is suggesting the vaccine does not work. "You can find 1 in 100 fringe scientists saying man made climate change isn't a thing. " You don't understand science then. The left who push the climate change issue have a hard time getting a scientist to speak for them. Almost all scientists feel climate change is a thing, the doubt lies in if it is a threat, how much man plays a role, what can we actually do, etc. With covid the media is focused solely on Fauci and the CDC, government officials with an agenda. Along with that, economists, psychologists and other experts are not being considered in how we approach this issue. Fact is, you saying there is a consensus with scientists is simply not true.

Not covid parties in the US. People are just going out and gathering regardless. Where I live now there are many bars and clubs that are packed every weekend. People moved on. If the virus was really that dangerous where I live at the death rate will be high. It isn't. In fact, the population of my city is growing.

According to a UCSF report from a few years ago 50% of new nursing home patients die in 6 months and the average lifespan of them is a year. Those people are high risk of death to begin with. Eliminate covid they might live another month. And that is a stretch based on the statistics. So no, most died due to a number of factors. Just pointing to covid is you literally saying no one died prior to covid.

As for the overall death count, almost all would have been dead in the same timeframe to begin with based on many objective measures. People have died all the time, we never shut down or freaked out before. You are also looking at one variable. Someone in their 90s with multiple health problems dying with covid does not mean covid killed them. Nor does it mean that if covid would not have been around that they would be alive today.

In the US almost all who died with covid would have been dead in the same timeframe to begin with based on many objective measures. You can't compare this to 9/11. If I recall the average age of death that day was 40 years, with covid the average age of death is in the 80s. Old people dying is the norm. I have had family members die. When my 83 year old grandma died years ago I saw it coming. When I received the phone call I was at work and saw it was my dad. I knew what is was about before I answered, my grandma is dead. I saw it with her being in and out of hospitals, many health problems.

What we are doing now has caused way more damage than the virus would have. There is always a cost at what we do. We do our best to try to minimize damage. In economics an example is driving. 40,000 die a year in traffic accidents. We can make that number to be zero if we cap speed limits to 15 mph. But what will happen to society as a whole? It will be destroyed much more. So what we say as a society is that there is some level of deaths we accept as alternatives will do more harm. In driving we try to make cars safer, have traffic laws, make roads safer, etc. But in the end there is only so much we can do. If we go too far with our actions to prevent traffic accident deaths we cause more problem. Same as with covid. We went too far with out actions and it caused more problems. Preventing someone from catching it where they die a month later anyways is a failure.

Not true. I will give you three examples. One, 40% of covid related deaths are nursing home patients. A UCSF report from a few years ago stated that 50% of new nursing home patients die in 6 months and the average lifespan of them is a year. If you graph covid deaths as a function of age and death probability as a function of age and death rate as a function of age all graphs are the same exponential shape. Around 80% of covid death are 65 and older. Of deaths in general from previous years it is around 80% of them are 65 and older. To add another for good measure, 94% had comorbidities. Point being, these are people are of high risk of death to begin with.

@LittleAl016 to add, in the book "Being Mortal" the author talks about how people seek out modern medicine to live another 5 or 10 years but in reality live only another 5 or 10 weeks. We can have old people or very sick people live longer than expected if we expend a ton of resources on them. But as a result that means less resources for other individuals that are younger that need care. And even at that, how much longer will those people live? Another month? That is not a success. As with covid, so we did all these protocols that destroyed our economy, destroyed people's lives financially, personally and mentally. And for what? So some elderly person might not get and live another month?

But our society will be harmed more. There is always a cost at what we do. We try to alleviate damage as much as possible. In the case of covid we went the wrong approach because, as I said, base on many objective measures almost all who died with covid would have been dead in the same timeframe to begin with. And many who would not have most likely died because of being depressed or substance abuse ruining their immune system causing them to be at risk of covid related deaths. There are a ton of variables to this. You just looking at one is dangerous.

@223Drone it is not a strawman argument. The point is that you accept some level of death in certain situations because if we go to far with precautions we cause more damage. As with driving we can make traffic accidents to be zero by capping speed limits to be 15 mph. But society will be harmed more. Same with covid. The lockdowns caused more damage. What we are doing now causes more damage. If you disagree then OK, but you are willing to accept the damage the covid protocols are doing. Bottom line, there will be damage in some way. In this case, with the covid protocols, the economy was destroyed. People are skipping meals as they can't afford them. People can't pay loans, lost businesses, etc. All that damage happened. You seem to accept it as to you trying to minimize covid deaths are more important than ruining people's lives via the covid protocols. Bottom line, you are a hypocrite.

@223Drone this is why I say you don't care about people at time. To you, a covid protocol that will reduce covid death, but leads to substance abuse increases leading to people dying from that is acceptable. As in you feel people dying from substance abuse is OK as that, in your eyes, is less damaging than someone dying with covid. In the end, lives will be harmed.

You say "preventable deaths". Well here is how we can prevent deaths in society. Cap speed limits to 15 mph will end deaths related to traffic accidents. Lock everyone in rubber rooms and allow only a select few people create and distribute resources to those people. Are those things you support? You are so concerned about preventing deaths but when I give you ways to prevent deaths you just call it a strawman. That is why I say you do not care about children dying. Thousands die a year in traffic accidents. Banning them from going near roads will make that to be zero.

The drawback is that kids will not develop a ton of skills need to succeed later in life ruining society.

All you care about covid. The people who died due to substance abuse from the lockdowns you don't care about. That is my point. No system is perfect. There will always be damage. We try our best to minimize them. To you it was focusing on just covid. To me I feel the covid restrictions caused way more damage and I gave a ton of evidence to support that. Just be honest.

@223Drone again, no matter what we do people will be harmed, and even die. We try our best to minimize that. To you the cost of people dying from substance abuse, the cost of people's lives being ruined via losing their jobs, their businesses, their education, the cost of people becoming depressed and medicated from all the covid restrictions is worth it to prevent covid deaths in your eyes. That is your standard. At this point you just have to be honest. You feel the people dying from substance abuse that spiked from the lockdowns was worth it to alleviate covid deaths.

So just admit it, you have your standard that leads to people's deaths and suffering. You just refuse to accept it. I have with my standard. I feel my standard minimizes the deaths and suffering. Vaccinated people are freaking out, why? You should be protected. As for hospitals filling up, that is nothing new. They are always full. That is how they make money. In 2017 a hospital in a city in CA had to build temporary ICU rooms as the flu was causing them to overfill. Yes, we have been through this for 2 years with no end in sight if you listen to the CDC and Fauci. So most have moved on. I rather live life than live in fear. If I die from covid then so be it, at least I was enjoying life while doing it.

@Martinroadsguy easy, from the CDC article entitled "Polio Vaccine Effectiveness and Duration of Protection" it says "Two doses of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) are 90% effective or more against polio; three doses are 99% to 100% effective."
