@warriorwaitress7690 overall, I suggest your daughter worry about what goes on in her state. Unless she lives in FL, votes there, pay taxes there, etc. she should not worry about it. A big reason why so many voted for Trump was that people were sick of the liberal elites talking down to them. People are sick of your daughter, living out west calling people of FL ignorant, names, transphobe, etc. when she has never even interacted with them nor care to understand them.
Here is the thing, worry about your state, your community and not others. If FL is so awful towards the LGBTQ community then maybe your daughter should spend time recruiting them to live in your community as opposed to trying to change other communities they have zero ties with.

@DissociatedWomenIncorporated the bill is not vague. It says sexual orientation. At that point the courts will rule all sexual orientation including being straight. Also, clear guidelines will be created. Read education standards sometime, they are always vague. Read CCSS, they are vague where teachers develop their curriculum. As I said, this law is not really adding anything new that does not exist, it actually makes things more clear in what teachers can and cannot do.
"And once again, why is gender identity being lumped in with sexual orientations"
They are related, also, a lot is in this bill. It is 7 pages long where sexual orientation is mentioned twice and same with gender identity.
"and if a teacher transitioned in terms of gender, how could they be expected to entirely avoid the topic of gender identity from a bunch of very curious minded kids"
Easy, don't talk about it. It is a complex issue.
"The entire bill is lunacy, and given that teachers already weren’t going into any inappropriate bedroom topics and could already be fired if they did, why exactly was the bill even needed?"
Well, put it like this. There are teachers in other states pushing the idea that this bill is "don't say gay". In Denver students and teachers rallied against the bill. You have teachers pushing false information about the bill and are talking about issues like sexual orientation to kids where that is not what they should be talking about. When I hear of teachers supporting, and even participating over this bill feeling it is "don't say gay" makes me support it more. That our teachers need to be roped in even more.

@warriorwaitress7690 ok, and? I have a PhD and an MBA. So what's your point? Also, you bring up emotion. An intelligent person knows that when emotions go up, logic and reasoning go down. It seems like your daughter letting her emotions get away with her.
Second, you bring up solidarity. OK, solidarity to who? She does not live in FL, she does not vote there, she does not pay taxes there, she does not understand and experience the culture there. Also, high chances she does not understand law there. If she does then you daughter needs to find a new life. Almost all lawyers do not know the laws of all states, they only worry about their own state.
And how is this bill anit-LGBTQ? Where does it mention LGBTQ, gay, lesbian, etc.? There is example I am pointing out two things. One, she does not understand FL law. Next, she is letting emotions get away with her. In the entire bill there are essentially a couple of lines that talk about sexual orientation. The bill is around 7 pages long. Here are the two parts
"prohibiting classroom
discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in certain grade levels or in a specified manner"
and
"Classroom instruction by school personnel or third
parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age100 appropriate or developmentally appropriate"
Ok, now where does this harm the LGBTQ community?
"watch as hundreds of anti-LGBTQ bills are being introduced in dozens of states"
Such as?
"They're well aware of precisely what is in this law and the deeply harmful effects that their cohorts in Florida now face because of it."
I doubt it. If they did they would not be reacting the way they did. To me what you daughter just did is most likely a great example of why we need such a law. I bet the teacher of her school coordinated this by claiming the bill was "don't say gay" and harmed the LGBTQ community when it did not. I bet the teacher of the school is using your kid, giving them misinformation to push the propaganda that the LGBTQ community is under attack and republicans are bad which is what so many on the right are concerned about creating such law. Schools should not be indoctrinating kids like that.
"Have you ever bothered to consider that LGBTQ youth are more than 4 times as likely to attempt suicide as their peers? More than half of transgender youth seriously consider suicide. "
And an argument is that trans individuals have a mental illness to begin with. When they can't accept their identity, or are confused in general they are of high risk of suicide to begin with. Mental illness is very challenging to deal with. But by ignoring one side of the argument by calling people transphobes is not going to progress us.
"Not because there's something inherently dysfunctional about being LGBTQ,"
Well, actually, arguably there is something dysfunctional about them. Consider people who were very successful and loved in life that still commit suicide all across the board. Suicide is a very challenging topic. Why did Robin Williams commit suicide? He was well loved and successful. Why do homeless people not commit suicide despite being in pain and living in miserable conditions?
You say I should question my intelligence but really, I question yours. Think about it, if you are a man who feel they are a woman, or think they are a woman, there is something wrong with you already mentally. As is then you are at risk of suicide overall. Also, with suicides, FL has one of the lowest suicide rates in the US. Now that is all suicides but it appears suicides are not a big deal in FL, which can arguably include suicides of LGBTQ people.
