Next, you can sell it to someone else and if you took care of it........wait for it........you can sell it for a higher value. Also, if you take care of your car it will last longer meaning you can buy a newer car later which saves you money. So that is that as well. Everything you are saying does not counter what I said. You can't tax wealth that easily as a lot of wealth is non-liquidated to begin with. Also, a lot of wealth is determined simply by who owns something.

@50jakecs the problem with a wealth tax is that what determines the value of something in may ways is who possesses it. For example, give a new Kia to me and a new Porsche to some 15 year old punk kid and predict in 5 years which will be worth more? Most will say the Kia as I have a history of taking care of cars and that young, punk kid will most likely drive the crap out of the Porsche where a lot of repair will be to be done on it. Where the only real value would be of a mechanic buying to rebuild it. Now take that with stocks. Bezos is worth as much as he is because he is the major shareholder of Amazon. He is willing to stand by his company in doing so which increases the value. If he were to try to liquidate a large portion of his stocks that will signal a red flag to investors lowering the value. It will also start to saturate the market of his stocks lowering the value. Also, with your yacht example, how many cannot buy a yacht due to a wealth tax on it? Or going more common, a car? How many can buy a reliable car because of a wealth tax on it?

@whyispinkysoinsane7898 the value of a car is determined by who owns it. Take someone's credit history. Two people buying the same car with a loan but with different credit histories will have different interest rates. The person with the lower credit score will have a higher interest rate and will be essentially be paying more for a car as he is a greater risk.

As I said, those with a lower credit score will be paying more for the car in the end as they are a higher risk. Sorry that I burnt you bud. But that is the fact. One's personal history determines that. Also, you saying credit scores affects whether or not someone gets a loan further proves my point as banks will not take a risk on someone with a credit score that is too low. It proves my point that certain people, due to their history, can make something more wealthy or not. A bank will not give out a loan to a risk person as that bank will have too much to lose. @whyispinkysoinsane7898 to add, if a bank gave someone a loan who had bad credit for a car and they don't pay it off there are two risks there. One, them not paying it off and two, the bank repossess the car it can be in bad shape and not worth much. So yes, my point stands. You have been burnt.

In offering a loan the bank determines the persons background on one, how likely they will pay back the loan and two, if they can't will the bank be able to get the car in good enough shape to earn something off of it. If you have a person with bad credit the bank will offer a higher interest rate which essentially makes the car more expensive. But if the credit history is too high the bank will say no because one, they have a great chance of not getting the money back and two, if they did offer the loan when they repossess the car it will be in terrible shape. There is more then the price with the dealership but also price with the bank as in the interest rates if you can even get a loan. As for depreciation, how about this. Someone buys a car and takes good care of it and can trade it in at a higher value down the road. There is more to a car than just mileage. So consider a person who buys a car, takes good care of it and down the road is able to trade it in for a higher value compared to a person who buys a car and does not take care of it. How do you think MSRP is determined? Again, you have been burnt.

@whyispinkysoinsane7898 the dealer does not, but if you try to trade in a car they deal will care how well you took car of the car you are trying to trade in to buy it off you for more. Also, the bank cares which determines if they give you a loan or not and if they do what will be the interest rate. They are thinking long term and they base that off of your credit history. It is the same with stocks and buying stocks of a company. Part of the value is how the major shareholder feels about their company. Take Amazon, again. Bezos is the major shareholder of Amazon which increases the value of the stock. Just like someone with a good credit history will have a greater chance of getting a loan with a lower interest rate. As for a car depreciating, how much it depreciates depends on the user which you are also ignoring. That, again, is on the individual. Again, you are being burnt because you have zero argument. @whyispinkysoinsane7898 you are denying the fact that 1. A person's credit history is a way to determining really their value and if someone, in this case the bank, want to take a risk on them. Just like with a company and the value of their shares. Who runs it will ultimately determine the value and 2. Who owns a car will determine how it depreciates over time and influences how it will be valued when they try to sell it later.

That is what you need to compare to. But again, you are the one who did not know individuals cannot sell cars. You also did not know that depending who owns the car depends on how it depreciates. Please, buy a car, drive it to the ground without taking care of it and try to sell it compared to a person who actually took care of their care over the same time period. Again, how someone takes care of the car they own depends on how much it depreciates. And the bank is not going to pay for a car to allow someone to drive it that is at high risk. So yes, credit history does influence the value of the car by either the person can't buy it or they can at a high interest rate. 2. Yes, who owns the car affects the value. People who buy used cars do care how the previous owner took care of them. Here, say you have person A and Person B. They both buy the same new car. Person A drives it well and takes care of it for 5 years. Person B drives the crap of it and does not take care of it for 5 years. When they both try to sell it Person A will be able to sell their car for more. Have you never bought a car before?

@whyispinkysoinsane7898 as for the Porsche 911 you are literally showing your ignorance. Older models are valued more in many ways. I have a friend who owns one that is worth a lot for two reasons. One, it is a manual and two, more importantly, it is one of the few air cooled engines out there. So yes, depending on the Porsche 911 you can sell a rebuilt one more than a new one.

Why? Because the poor driver with the Porsche will ruin it where it will depreciate to be worth less. I never said that the car I will have will not depreciate, it will. Here is my point Say you have two new cars, exactly the same. Person A buys it, drive it for 5 years, takes goo care of it and it runs well and looks good after 5 years. Person B buys the exact same car new, drives the crap out of it, after 5 years, as a result, does not run well and looks bad. Which car is worth more? The one Person A owns. Same cars at the beginning, same time frame, but how Person A treated their car makes it worth more than Person B's car. Both are worth less compared to when it was new in price, but when comparing those two cars Person A's car is worth more at that time due to them taking care of it. As with wealth, a lot of the value of wealth comes from who owns it. Again, take Amazon. If you or I were the major shareholder running Amazon the value of the shares of Amazon will be low as investors know we do not have experience running it and thus the shares will be high risk. Same with buying a car and getting a loan. Sure, the dealer will set the price, but the bank offering the loan will determine if they ultimately want to buy it. That is who is buying it in the end with a loan, the bank. I have a loan on my car, the bank owns it, not me. The bank decided I was worth the risk and bought the car at that price. But I know the bank will not offer me a loan for a $50,000 car.
