So you are going to immediately believe the workers and not the managers? Many managers said the allegations were not true. Even at that, you have several factors here. Tornados like this are rare. If a company were to shut down over a tornado threat productivity will drop a lot. Next, there is the argument to be made that allowing the employees to leave put them in more danger as tornados can pop up out to nowhere and it is safer in the factory as opposed to being on the road. But overall, just immediately believing the workers and not the managers is foolish.

This is a complex situation. Tornados like those are rare. F5 tornados hardly happen. If a company were to just let workers leave because a tornado might be coming productivity across the board will drop. This is why our supply chain is so bad now, to many leftists just letting workers do whatever they want dragging down productivity.

@radiotec76 hurricanes are easier to predict as they form and you can see them coming from a long ways away. Tornados pop up out of nowhere. I lived in the midwest for years and seen it first hand.

Most tornados case little damage and no deaths. So basically you are saying we should shut down everything in a tornado for the very small, as in way less than 1% chance, that the tornado is deadly?

@psuedonym9999 ok, watched part of it. Not Just Bikes suggestion on stroads making them better is impossible. That would cost a ton of money in an established nation. He points to the Netherlands where European nations have different roads compared to the US do their how old the nations are. Him suggesting that we completely change our infrastructures by moving buildings and redesigning our roads is impossible. The cost would be huge and the delay in economic movement will be costly.

Define risking your life. One, allowing people to just leave a shelter and drive on the road when a tornado is looming arguably places the worker in danger. Safer in a building than in a car. Next, F5 tornados are very rare. If there is tornado weather and allowing employees to just leave at will will end up causing so many problems for the company and our overall state of the economy. Again, F5 tornados are rare.

@certs743 and don't bring climate change in this. F5 tornados have been around for hundreds of years. As I said, this is the first one since 2013. We saw 4 in 1965 alone. So if climate change means less F5 tornados, I am all for it.

In reality, a home's structure is not as strong as a factory. An F5 tornado would have leveled a home and if they were in a basement they would have been sucked right up. This is why in all our debates you just go to name calling. You have nothing. You are making assumptions about me. Fact is that tornados like those are rare. Those people are no safer in their home then in the factory. Along with that, you can't predict how long a tornado will be on the ground, or the path it will take. So it comes back to that just because there is a tornado warning we just don't shut down businesses and tell everyone to hide. Chances are very high it is nothing.

@Palafico3 there are many dangers in life. Those working at that factory, overall, had a higher chance of dying driving to work than dying in a tornado. On average 80 people die a year in tornados. 40,000 die a year in traffic accidents. Why not have the company do a shuttle program picking up employees so they are riding in a larger, safer vehicle and there are less on the road? Or how about the employer pay the employee for the time/mileage to drive to work? Being scared is not an excuse to leave. If you set that standard people can just claim they are scared for any excuse to leave.

What can make that to be essentially zero is cap speed limits to be 15 mph. Now what will happen to the overall state of the economy? It will be destroyed harming more people. We have actually just experienced this very thing with covid. The survival rate of covid is well over 99% and it is now clear that almost all who died with covid were at high risk of death to begin with and statistically would still be dead in the same timeframe. The covid restrictions caused a lot of damage to the economy, our supply chain, etc. harming more people. So something have to give. You have to consider what causes the least damage overall. A bad economy can harm many lives as well.

This is a question that is similar to what economists ask. Thousands of kids die a year in traffic accidents a year. We can make that number to be zero if we ban kids from going near roads. We should come together and help people. You are criticizing right wingers, but those on the left are doing what Mike is doing, blaming businesses and also many on the left are blaming climate change. There are threats all the time in the world. 80 people die on average in tornados. 40,000 die a year in traffic accidents. By your logic at this point we should ban driving to prevent traffic deaths. Now think of the damage that will do overall to society. Same with tornado warnings. If every time one occurs we shut down, think of the damage it will do overall to society. We experienced that with covid where we shut down over a small threat and it causing more problems.

In case you have not noticed but many democrats did strict lockdowns in 2020 destroying the economy and now the current administration is creating such huge uncertainty nobody wants to invest. Reduce the impact from the government like Trump did and the economy is in our hands as people making it better.
