@Cancellator5000 the US does. Other nations do well in very basic care, I will admit. But in advanced care they fall behind the US. The US, in advanced care, is number one in access and survival rates. Now one can argue what should we value more, having very sick people get access to advanced care so they can live a few more years, maybe. Or making sure citizens get access to very basic care. However, how much of the very basic care is necessary? Healthcare is complex. Sure, other nations may be cheaper insulin, but it comes at a cost elsewhere. Just like advil cost me over $200 when I went to the ER for detox, I know others ended up getting great care when it comes to advanced care. Not saying the US is best in healthcare. The truth is we do many things well compared to other nation. It depends on what you value.

@Cancellator5000 on the citation read the book "In Excellent Health". The author there lays out all of their sources. You bring up lowest life expectancy, there are other factors involved in that such as our high obesity rate or our higher rate of black population where blacks, genetically, have higher rates of heart disease. In fact, when you start considering those variables the fact that our life expectancy is so high is amazing. Pharmaceuticals have a lot to do with hospital care. They are connected in many ways. I, as a poor graduate student, had access to healthcare to go to detox twice and the ER room. Both which potentially saved my life. Now, with my new career, I have great healthcare insurance. I am nowhere near the 1%.

@Cancellator5000 when that book was written Scott Atlas was not a part of the Trump administration. You mention one reviewer, ok, who? And what sources do they use? Also, Fauci was a part of the Trum administration as well. I guess we should ignore him? 5% of France's population is black, it is 13% in the US. Life expectancy of Hispanics is 81 years, still lower than many developed nations. But hey, if you want to chalk it up to only one variable, healthcare, then sure. It is rather foolish but be my guest. There was no improvement on physical health. "And stricter government regulation of food like in places where obesity is less of a problem." So make people in poverty pay more for food? You know, forcing people to take four shots of a vaccine that does not even work. Or in a prisoner exchange by exchanging an actual murderer for a basketball player. Yeah, I sure trust them, a government that is how much in debt? When I earned my PhD my income went up nearly 5 times, and my benefits are way better. Why? Because I am a skilled worker with a strong resume. If you earn a graduate degree and you can't obtain a higher paying job then that is your fault.

I have heard many things he said and he is a complete fool. I am sorry, where did he get his doctorate at? That's right, he does not even have one. I am sorry, but you fell into the trap that many people, on both sides, fall into. That is listen to non experts on complex issues just because they speak well and satisfy your pre-set bias. "Let me ask you this. How are we ranked last among developed countries in statistics about infant mortality?" Well, to start, we are number one in obesity rates in the US where obesity leads to an increase in infant mortality. One paper that suggest that is entitled "Maternal Obesity and the Risk of Infant Death in the United States" There are others as well. A lot of the healthcare issues the US faces is our obesity rate where, as I mentioned referencing Katherine Baicker, even with access to healthcare their physical health will not improve.

Price setting does not work. All companies will do if you cap the price of insulin is produce less insulin. It is the same in rent control that has led to worse apartments. Here, say the government, to slow down inflation, capped wages. So the government told you that you could not earn a higher wage than you have now. How will you act? I bet you will do your civic duty and continue to work hard despite zero chance of earning more.....or.....you would most likely work less as there is no incentive to work more if you won't earn more. And that is just on the incentive variable. With less money you will have less resources as well to grow as a person. The same would be with these companies and insulin along with other forms of medication and healthcare.

@camwyn256 healthcare is heavily restricted with a lot of government being involved. We have far from a free market healthcare system. We have a for profit system with a ton of government spending and regulations.

@denverarnold6210 we have a highly regulated healthcare system. We are far from a free market. In a free market the consumer can negotiate the prices. Right now we can't.

Price control never works. Look up economic history. If you cap insulin companies will just produce less. There is a long history of that.
