If we weren't so divided as a nation it would be over. We are way too divided though.
2
@arjb1046 all great nations throughout history fell from within. We could very well be there. What will make it worse is right down the middle is mainly republican controlled states and on the coasts are democrat controlled ones.
2
So one person finds a few idiots on the right does not represent the norm. Many feel the vaccine is safe, they are resistant to the massive push by the left to take it. There are stupid people on both sides when it comes to this vaccine and the virus.
2
There is an argument to be made it hasn't been tested enough. Now there are talks of boosters where before there weren't.
2
@screenarts for many getting the virus is safer as you build up long term immunity. So there is a point in avoiding the vaccine.
1
@screenarts there is evidence of long term immunity after infection.
1
@joeburly ok, but my point is why vaccinate those who have been infected? It is a waste.
1
@metta881 for some it is, especially for the young as they are at no risk. 30 states last school year had complete sport seasons as in a complete fall one, winter one and spring one. Many with fans in the stands. There were no increases in deaths or health issues with those kids. Vaccinate the vulnerable, let others make their own decisions. How am I moving the goal posts?
1
@metta881 there is a level of danger in covid, but to whom? As for adults, at this point leave it on them. If you want to get vaccinated and get booster shots every year, then fine. If an adult makes the decision not to, that is on them. Me, personally, I rather get the virus and build up immunity long term and not worry about getting boosters every year. As an adult I should have that freedom to make that choice.
1
@metta881 but others are looking to take away rights. Unvaccinated people are being treated like second class citizens. It is sick and divisive. It is my own choice. For many they are making the choice not to get vaccinated as they feel getting infected with the virus and getting long term immunity is better. And yes, for many that is a better route. Instead of worrying about booster shots every year.
1
@metta881 honest question. If you have been infected, why get vaccinated? That is a part of the problem here. There is a massive push to get immune people vaccinated.
1
@223Drone how many kids have died due to covid? Many people love to use the excess mortality data. Those ages 24 and younger did not see an increase in mortality compared to previous years. Also, even if I do not support people getting vaccinated (which is not true), I and others are not pushing to ban vaccines.
1
@223Drone here is you: You want to create vaccine mandates and treat unvaccinated people as second class citizens. I want people to have the freedom to take the vaccine or not.
1
@metta881 yes, many. Kids especially are fine. Yes, there is a push to vaccinate those who were infected. This is bring brought to court as deBlasio gets sued. It was mentioned in the argument. And why doesn't Fauci or the CDC talk about long term immunity for those who were infected and thus they can wait to be vaccinated? I agree, my body my choice. But me being told I have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to do things like fly or attending sporting events, that is insane.
1
@223Drone how many covid deaths are of those under the age of 18? In fact, with excess mortality, the age group of less than 25 years of age did not see an increase rate of death.
1
@metta881 long term immunity is evident based on many studies that looked at T and B memory cells. Many already had immunity due to prior infection of other coronaviruses. Read the BMJ article entitled "Covid-19: Do many people have pre-existing immunity?" There also is the question that after vaccination, if you become infected do you build up immunity? If the answer is yes that means those who were vaccinated and then infected do not need booster shots. As for my statement, it isn't political either. If you have long term immunity why get vaccinated and keep getting boosters? We will be wasting resources.
1
@metta881 I have more studies in journals like Cell, Nature and Science. As for booster shots, I am saying it would be a waste of limited resources. If you were infected forgo all shots so our healthcare industry, including pharma, can focus on other diseases. I can see reasoning why someone wants the vaccine to avoid long term damage that might happens. But if you were infected, do not take the shots. To me there is big pharma pushing this to a high degree to make money.
1
@223Drone "Again you're ignoring the fact that the number of young people and children getting covid is increasing" And how many are dying? Most have no symptoms.
1
@223Drone how many kids are dying? Schools are opened up and we are not seeing kids dying. If we were the media will be all over it. Most have no symptoms.
1
@223Drone "Except you don't have more studies in journals because none of them promote "immunity via infection" as a viable strategy. " Never said they do. Simply saying after infection long term infection sets it. You want to waste a limited vaccine on those people while other nations have less than 10% vaccination rate.
1
@davidgoldstein1526 many do not want to get vaccinated for legit reasons but still feel the vaccine is safe. A reason is that we have been jerked around for over a year now, our rights were stripped from us, and many feel that we will not get out of this by just submitting. So if everyone gets the vaccine will that be the end? No. We gave government power, they are never going to give it back up.
1
@davidgoldstein1526 many complained about the patriot act. But it does show that government does not give power back. What rights? The right to freely associate with society, to do business we want to. Healthcare privacy rights as well are being violated. As for my protection, that is on me, not the government.
1
@davidgoldstein1526 it isn't about HIPPA. There are things employers cannot ask. Not saying I agree with the law. But, for example, if you have a disability you do not have to answer. Same as when I was a TA during my graduate studies. A student will get help from the disability resource center and I could not ask why. I just had to listen to the DRC. As for businesses, I am fine with businesses having the right to mandate a vaccine for customers and employees. I am against the government doing it as we see in NYC and San Fran now. The issue with the Patriot Act is that one, it did not directly harm anyone and two, we were never this divided as a nation. Not saying I agree with the law, I don't. The atmosphere was different then.
1
What about long term? I feel it is safe, but what about the booster shots?
1
I actually support helping other nations out. Why vaccinated people who have been infected? Help distribute the vaccine to other places.
1
Sure, but we don't discriminate. People are trying to treat unvaccinated as second class citizens banning them from certain activities in society.
1
Difference is on abortion the argument is it is killing of a baby. That is part of it. However, what ever happened to my body my choice? If you are vaccinated you are fine by all logic. Let others take the risk.
1
It goes both ways. A major problem we have is no one wants to talk anymore. How many people who do not want to take the vaccine have you talked to? And did you try to understand their side? You talk about people ripping off masks. Well, why do you support treated unvaccinated people as second class citizens? If you are vaccinated why should you care?
1
There is a difference between promote and forcing. Right now many are forcing others to take the vaccine.
1
@alexanderhood8993 the issue is that the Biden team said from the beginning that even after vaccination we will still be wearing masks and socially distancing. So what was the point? Also, covid was a mess. It was never that dangerous, many of our politicians violated their own covid restrictions, people were jerked around. Other issues related to covid such as increase in depression from the lockdowns, financial damage, etc. were never discussed. Only the virus was. All other variables were ignored. Also, if you think this stops with vaccination you are wrong. Government is not giving up power so easily.
1
@alexanderhood8993 if you are vaccinated you are fine. Why do you care about others being vaccinate now?
1
@alexanderhood8993 as for lucky for not dying? More of the stats show it is not that dangerous. An over 99% survival rate.
1
Please go on because if you are vaccinated you are fine. Those who are not are taking the risk. So your analogy is poor.
1
@utahgetmetwo456 again, if you are vaccinated you are not at risk. Also, you jeopardize people's lives all the time when you interact with society. The juggling knives thing is you are doing a very dangerous action. Not taking the vaccine is more complex and people have always been getting sick. But again, if you are vaccinated you are safe. Why should you care?
1
@utahgetmetwo456 kids are of no risk. How many kids, as in under the age of 18, died with covid?
1
@utahgetmetwo456 if grandma is vaccinated she is fine. That is the point. Every adult has the choice now to get vaccinated or not. Those that choose not to are taking their own personal risk.
1
@utahgetmetwo456 using your analogy, if there is a vaccine to prevent being stabbed by knifes that would be great. However, none exists. Thus, you can't juggle knives in a crowder store.
1
@LittleAl016 how am I a fascist? You want to force people to get vaccinated.
1
@LittleAl016 how do I support fascists? Again, you want to force people to get vaccinated.
1
@LittleAl016 how are they fascists? By promoting and giving freedom? Oh the horror.
1
@LittleAl016 what freedom did they take away?
1
The issue is that if you are vaccinated why should you care? You are safe. If someone else want to take the risk let them.
1
There are standards in how we create those laws.
1
@twill9278 vaccines have been around for years, this one is different. It is so heavily politicized, the virus is not that dangerous, and the massive push is strong. There is also a lot of money to be made with this vaccine so why fully trust the medial community at this point? Also, so many people have been jerked around they do not know who to trust. And you saying medical professionals are "above average intelligence" is not always a good thing. It can also mean they know how to be deceptive and know what information to withhold.
1
@twill9278 "One can easily seduce, therefore, that anyone who is pro-vaccine is smarter than any anti-vaxxer you care to name." I feel blindly taking a new vaccine for a virus that is not that deadly is rather foolish. Also, if you were infected with covid, you have long term immunity that is so far showing to be more efficient in preventing infection. So why take the vaccine then? Or why isn't the CDC and Fauci talking about long term immunity for those infected?
1
@LittleAl016 it is not free, the government is paying for it. So yes, pharma companies and those distributing it are making money.
1
@LittleAl016 we have been through this, deaths are overstated. This is why my science background can read through your BS. You can't just give a number and expect it to mean anything. That is purely anti science. As I said, almost all who died with covid would have been dead in the same timeframe anyways based on many objective measures. And yes, pharma companies are profiting off of it. Do you think they will just make that vaccine for free?
1
@LittleAl016 case in point on numbers. When I sent a paper out for review a reviewed commented on a number I gave and asked to interpret it and give its physical meaning. Thus, I could not just give a number, I had to give it meaning. As with your covid death number. Someone in their 90s with a long list of health issues dying with covid is not a covid death. It was a person who was very frail that was going to die anyways based on many objective measures.
1
@LittleAl016 using only one variable to classify a death is anti science. That is why the CDC said 94% of those who died had co-morbidities. Other factors were at play. Almost all who died with covid would have been dead anyways based on many objective measures. Someone in their 90% with a long list of health problems dying with covid is not a covid death anymore, it is a death of an old, frail person that would have most likely died to begin with. Also, another issue was testing. The tests had a difficult time separating out covid from the flu. The "certifiable records" you are citing is claiming a 90 year old with many health problems dying with covid is a covid death which is not true. Other ailments such as thinning veins, diabetes, a weak heart, etc. were contributing factors.
1
@twill9278 never said the vaccine was not safe, I feel it is. I am planning on getting it if I get the job I am interviewing for because it will require me to fly a lot. Instead of taking tests I will wave my card like a good little comrade. But I won't feel in danger taking the vaccine. As for covid deaths, they are overstated. Almost all who died would have been dead in the same timeframe based on many objective measures. Also, I never said it was better to get infected. But why get vaccinated when you have been infected? That is a great point that few are talking about. Also, for some they may feel it is better to get infected and move on as opposed to taking boosters the rest of your life. Hospitals have always worked at near capacity. Same with morgues.
1
@twill9278 just glancing at some stories prior to covid in 2017 Ohio and St. Louis County had to use portable morgues for increase in drug deaths. During this "pandemic" substance abuse spiked along with deaths related to it. So there is that. Point being, the issue of overrun hospitals and portable morgues always existed prior to covid.
1
@twill9278 portable morgues and ICUs overflowing has always been occurring. Just looking, in 2017 hospitals in Visalia, CA were overflowing and had to put up tents. On covid deaths, the average age is in the 80s. The CDC stated that 94% of patients dying with covid had co-morbidities. The CDC said over 70% were obese. 40% of covid deaths were nursing home patients. According to a UCSF report from a few years ago, 50% of new nursing home patients die in 6 months, and the average lifespan is a year. So these are people who are of high risk of death to begin with. As for getting the vaccine, I am holding off as much as possible to make a statement in how dumb and dangerous this all is.
1
@twill9278 covid is not that dangerous. We were jerked around for over a year. During that time a lot of damage was done to the economy and many people's lives psychologically. No talks about that. People only talked about the virus. Trump rallies were called super spreader events but BLM protests were OK. You had many politicians violating their own covid restrictions. You having hypertension places you at high risk of death to begin with. If you catch covid and die hypertension played a role. I gave you stats on how covid deaths are overstated where almost all who died with covid would have been dead anyways in the same timeframe. That is the reality. We caused a lot of damage to our economy and people's psychology for nothing.
1
@twill9278 almost all who died with covid would have been dead in the same timeframe anyways. For example, 40% of covid related deaths were nursing home patients. According to a UCSF report from a few years ago, 50% of new nursing home patients die in 6 months, and the average lifespan is a year for them. Point being, they are people of high risk of death to begin with. "If people would just take the db vaccine, this would all be in the rearview mirror." No it won't, governors will just keep making more excuses.
1
@223Drone on me saying getting infected is better, I am saying many feel it is better to get infected. That is a personal choice. So instead of getting vaccination and booster shots every year, many feel it is better to become infected. At this point, if you are vaccinated, why should you care what others do?
1
@223Drone I give stats, you give nothing. I have officially won this argument by default.
1
@223Drone for many it is as immunity is long term as opposed to taking booster shots every year. That will add more value to society as a whole as pharma companies can focus on other diseases as opposed to these constant booster shots.
1
@223Drone answer this very simple question. If you were infected with covid you now have long term immunity. So why get vaccination? Millions were infected with covid prior to the vaccine existing. Why do you never answer that question?
1
@twill9278 what is not true?
1
As MTG said, it is hard to know what and who to trust anymore. Really, that goes on both sides. The left has been pushing a lot of misinformation as well.
1
@TheJrr71 no it isn't. Again, both sides push misinformation.
1
Really? Do you really think we can just submit our way out of this?
1
It is ironic that the left is pushing this vaccine while claiming to be the "my body my choice" crowd.
1
@Boutneus12 one, an abortion arguably does harm others. Next, if you are vaccinated you are safe. Why should you care at this point what others do?
1
There are legal questions being raised now about vaccine mandates. deBlasio is being sued now and interesting cases are being brought up when it comes to his vaccine passports.
1
Because he would know how to market it by not forcing it on people.
1
