@Lucy-pz9ft I am going by per capita. That accounts for population. Per capita, CA and NY have more robberies. If you want to go by just the population numbers, OK having a smaller population skews their per capita stance, arguably. For example, say you have
A: 100 people with 10 violent crimes. 6 are domestic abuse, 2 are murders, 2 are assaults
B: 1,000 with 90 crimes. 50 are murders, 30 are assaults, 10 are domestic abuse
A has a 10% crime rate where B has a 9%. However, 60% of A crime are domestic. So their domestic abuse numbers, due to their small population, skews the results.
As I said, people care about robberies, vandalisms, muggings, people being pushed in front of subways.
