Unless deaths and/or hospitalizations go up we won't shut down. Right now those numbers are not going up at a high rate, if at all.

@hoosierladyus48 rights are being taken away. Also, as for that person who lost their grandma, how old were they? Around 80% of deaths are of people who are 65 and older. The fact is that more evidence is coming out that this virus is not that dangerous. Also, consider this, in April 24 we saw are highest case number of around 39,000. It has dropped to the lowest recently being around 24,000, less than 50%. With deaths the peak was around the same day with around 2100, now it has dropped around 400 deaths, a close to 80% drop. The drops in deaths is around twice as fast as the drops of new cases. The idea of the lock downs is to get our healthcare system in a position to give care to those who need it and have others, based on more knowledge, understand how to become well themselves. We are there. Despite these spike in cases deaths are still dropping. It was never about stopping the spread but about adjusting the healthcare system to reduce deaths.

@janet6421 three of those are heart disease, chronic lower respiratory disease and pneumonia, all respiratory in which the virus influences that part of the body. So many of the virus deaths were cormorbitites? So yes, it is easily arguable that the deaths are overstated.

You have to consider comorbitities. That is hard because 122,000 deaths is low overall, and also it isn't like we can bring these people back to life and do studies on them to see how much longer they would have died without the virus. So no, the mortality rate is not 5%. It is much lower.

@MajinMist603 people die for many reasons every day in the US. On average 7500 die a day in the US but we do not lock down. Also, deaths have dropped at a fast rate in the US. The death rate, in the US, has dropped at a rate that is around twice as fast compared to the rate of new cases dropping. The lock downs was never about stopping the spread but placing us in a position lower deaths. We have.

@MFBloosh so what is wrong with what I said? With you attacking my grammar shows you have no actual rebuttal. One, this is a youtube comment section, not a recommendation letter for one of my students or my PhD dissertation. Next, math and science are my strong points, grammar is not. How about you tell me how modelocking works via the Kerr lens effect before you start telling someone their spelling is wrong.

@MFBloosh you do know that someone can be very good at math but struggle in grammar? And many people are strong at writing but struggle at math? That is a common issue.

@MFBloosh here, I will explain it in more details. We peaked in new cases on April 24. Since then the new cases per day has dropped to where it was recently at a low of around 24,000 cases. That is less than a 50% drop. In deaths, around the same time, peaked at around 2100 deaths a day. It has now dropped to around 400 deaths a day, around and 80% drop. That is my point. Sorry that math is a hard thing for you to grasp. No wonder we have so many fools in our nation still scared of this virus.
