He is comparing it to slavery because doctors will be forced to take on patients they don't want to and also forced to take on more work. Yes, they will be paid, but will be forced to take on more work because the reality is that we don't have enough doctors to cover everyone. Since we don't have enough doctors than either we have to force more people to become doctors or we force the ones we have to work harder for less pay. We see the same problem with public education, teachers have to take on more students but don't get paid anymore.

Slavery is forcing someone to work for you. With no min. wage you still have the ability to negotiate your own wage and people do. The average wage in the US is over $24/hr. So the whole assumption that with no min. wage people will make nothing is completely false. But forcing someone to give out their services to someone is slavery. That was the point he is getting at with universal healthcare, you are forcing the healthcare industry and it's workers to give you their service.

But healthcare isn't a right.

Around 70% of firefighters are volunteer, and fire departments are funded locally. But nice to see you try

Karl Saleh And the rest of the free world is lagging behind the US is several ways. There is a reason why the US has the best university system, is leading the way in research and innovation of technology, also, we are more free than any other countries. The rest of the "free" world have a completely different mindset than us, the US likes freedom and liberty. Basically with socialized healthcare you are forcing people to take on work that they don't want. It is similar to slavery. If we don't have enough doctors than they will have to work more, or we will have to ration out care like they do in other countries which lowers the quality. But in the end they will be forced to take on work they don't want.

So I heard Vermont is not going to do universal healthcare. I guess the people didn't like the 10% increase in taxes.

Rand Paul has a point here. If the government makes healthcare a right then the people providing that become a slave. Dr. Kraus is willing to do her job but how many doctors are willing to work for nothing? They can take their education and skills elsewhere and make more money. Whenever the government gets involved in something it eliminates competition which raises the price of actual good services.

If the founding fathers supported federal welfare they would have put in in the constitution and establish a federal income tax. They didn't meaning you are wrong.
