  2. +daneholmberg It's true. It was the war and eventually his death that got us out of the depression. Funny how he was president during the worse economic time this country has seen and people feel he was a good president. I guess people feel that Matt Millen was a good GM for the Detroit Lions as well.

  3. +Cherry.Bakewell Under Hoover was a recession. Hoover pushed for more federal government action that slowed down recovery. FDR took over and expanded those federal government's involvement which then turned it into a depression. In 1921 we had a recession just as bad as the one in 1929. The federal government did nothing and within a year we recovered. Recessions happen and history shows that when the federal government does nothing then recovery is quick. When the federal government tries to fix the economy (as in the recession of 1929 and 2007) recovery is hindered. So yes, FDR did turn a recession into a depression.

  4. +Cherry.Bakewell Hoover is not off the hook here, but FDR took over 4 years later and things did not get better until almost a decade later.
