Because you should not politicize a crisis. This is a temporary situation and not the norm. Using a temporary situation to push for more government power is dangerous. Also, if you need a crisis to push your ideas across you are a lost cause overall to begin with.

@brianpowell6058 most lives are fine. Over half the deaths lie in three states, MI, NY and NJ. You don't see many deaths in states like NE. Not every state is the same.

@brianpowell6058 no, not every state is the same. Many rural areas have lower population densities to start. That is why NE has so few deaths. So yes, most lives are fine. This is why we don't have national standards in that not every state deals with the same issues. NY was hit hard because of a high population density, high tourism, and plus their hospitals are over ran to begin with. States like NE and KS don't experience that. So why should they confirm to a national standard that will harm them?

Also, if you want to make it a national crisis how about we just quarantine NY and NJ and let the rest of the nation open up? Also, national standards have not been shown to work out. Right now the economy is suffering because many states decided to follow suit and shut down. How many are going to die and suffer due to a poor economy now?

@brianpowell6058 is it a crisis? Also, not every area is facing the same situation. If you want to go by your standard why not set a global standard? And yes, people will die because of a poor economy. An issue is that many people are not willing to take on the difficult issues and admit human life does have a value. I believe Cuomo said that if it took a trillion dollars to save someone's life it was worth it. Reality is that is simply not true. Right now people are suffering economically just because a few sections of the nations. You can't set a federal standard. Again, if you do why not quarantine NY and NJ and let the rest of the nation work?

@wyvernlord23 or maybe it has to do with culture. S. Korea, according to Hofstede cultural dimension, is a very collective, and feminine culture with high uncertainty avoidance. That means people are not willing to take risk and will take actions they feel are better for others as opposed to themselves. Consider how in the US we had many people still celebrating spring break. So it isn't so much political but culture.

@PRIVATE or maybe this issue is being over blown. I agree there is a political divide on this. Seems like the left is more willing to trust the government where the right is more skeptical. But in reality, over half the deaths reside in 3 states. Right now this issue, in my opinion, is being way over blown.

@Badatallthis Stuff he is far left. People in the European nations even say so. Him wanting to completely dismantle our healthcare system and replace it, and the push for the GND which is having government run the energy sector is far left. Those are radical ideas. But if you want to look at European nations like us look at the Scandinavian nations that Bernie so wants to copy. They have lower corporate taxes, no wealth tax, a VAT tax, more of a flat tax, and no Wall Street tax. Bernie claims he only wants to tax the rich more, wall street more, corporations more, and wealth. So his tax policies are nowhere close to the Scandinavian nations. Also, one can argue that those policies in other nations have shortcomings and won't work in the US. A major issue Bernie fans don't realize is that they ignore a huge factor, culture. The culture of those nations accept those policies. They won't in the US. So yes, Bernie is a radical. To add, he has nothing but talking points on his policies. He has no actual details.

@marypaquet3372 it is not denial but a reality. How bad is this issue? If feel it is being overblown. Over half the deaths are in 3 states. Most of the nation is fine. A lot of the measures the CDC suggested, like washing hands, we should be doing anyway. But people decided to just shut down the economy which is making more people worse off. Medicare for all won't do anything. In fact, it will make the issue worse. And I do care about others. That is why I want the economy to re-open. How many small businesses are going to never open again? A lot the longer we go.

@part-of-juffo-wup Trump is doing that in letting the states handle it. NE has no stay at home order and they have some of the fewest cases, even when taking population into account. This is a diverse nation where each state is facing this differently. To demand that the entire nation follows one standard just because NY and NJ are suffering is not wise.

@rittherugger160 they still pay taxes. Consider Amazon. They were going to get a tax break to put a HQ in NY. The current situation was this. Right now NY is making zero dollars off of Amazon but also paying zero dollars. Now say, using simple numbers, Amazon would have paid $10 in taxes and NY gave a tax break of 30%, they would be paying $7. It isn't NY paying $3 but instead letting Amazon keep $3. Amazon still pays taxes. If the airlines fail people lose their jobs. We have seen this often when a company goes bankrupt, employees go away. "All that needs to be done is for someone to come in and tell everyone to get back to work. The government can do that easily." They can't as that would be a waste.

@part-of-juffo-wup I find it funny how many called Trump a fascist but during this time he does what he is supposed to do, let the states handle it. He can easily do executive orders and gain power but instead he is letting the states handle this issue. And as a result this issue is not as bad as originally expected. In fact, a lot of places have too many healthcare workers and have to cut back.

@jasonwalsh6149 people are still traveling and the outbreak is dropping. As is states have different standards. States like ND, SD, NE etc. have no stay at home orders and are doing fine. Why is that? Maybe because there is way more to this than you know.

This is over blown. People are not going to work or school. So transit workers simply have less passengers. They are not on the "front lines" and are low risk.
