batmanbunny101 If you as a workers can't develop $15/hr of wealth then that person should not exist.

Ruthlessfish "If corporations increase the cost of their products instead of producing more goods, they will just lose customers" The problem is that just because you pay workers more doesn't mean productivity will go up. So you pay workers more to produce the same businesses have no choice then to either one, raise prices, or two, cut workers and force the current ones working to be more productive (or just keep the productive ones).

4u2us2 In some ways yes. Usually what businesses will do is cut hours instead. Higher prices means less customers. Businesses will cut hours first which means less jobs.

poptart 523 It doesn't take an economist to read up on this stuff.

Ruthlessfish A few things there. 1. Wages have gone up for those who invested and created the technology to improve productivity. Productivity is up due to technology. Those workers earning more is called Skilled Biased Technological Change 2. Due to increase technology goods and services are better and cheaper. Think about how much a cell phone cost in the 80s and compare it to phones now? Same with VCRs, TVs, computers, cars etc. 3. Disposable income is up which is more important than actual wage. That means people have more money to spend due to the purchasing power of the dollar being higher.

Ruthlessfish Disposable income is up. On productivity, look up Skilled Biased Technological Change.

batmanbunny101 I don't want them to die, you do. If you raise the min. wage to $15/hr then people will lose their jobs. If you do run a garage then you run a business with skill workers. Someone flipping burgers or stocking shelves is not a skill, that is why someone without a high school degree can do it. Let me ask you this about your business. 1. Do you hire workers who are not skilled, as in can't do the job you ask? 2. Why don't you hire more? You complain about businesses who pay less, I can easily turn around and complain about how little workers you hire.

batmanbunny101 That is great your business boomed, but others had to raise prices and cut hours. Your business is not the only one that exists .

batmanbunny101 Overall unemployment went down along with the rest of the country. You hit the nail on the head when you said that some restaurants closed down. That is what you need to look at with the min. wage. There are several factors that are involved in overall unemployment that go far beyond the min. wage. Even at $15/hr compared to the entire economy that is rather low, especially in major cities Thus it has a small effect on the economy and all negative effects gets lost in the statistical noise. That is why you have to look at target groups such as restaurants and low skill workers. Two things that fit that profile are restaurants and teenagers. Yes restaurants closed down. Also the state of Washington has one of the highest teenage unemployment rates.

batmanbunny101 Plus I go back to a question you have not answered. You said this " but that is because they wanted their workers to not live on a sustainable wage" And I will counter with this Why do you hire so little workers? Sure you may pay more, but if you hire less then it doesn't matter? Why don't you hire more?
