  4. +Doug Bailey Bernie is all talk and no action. The town hall session in Vegas on MSNBC was pathetic. He could not answer a question directly. The closest he did was when he said congress has to work on getting something done. He basically admitted that he can't do what he promises without congress. There were two great examples of when he did not answer the question. One was when someone asked about the min. wage and how he will prevent prices from going up. Bernie just went on his rant about giving poor people more money. The guy had to ask the question again to where Bernie finally said that you will have to pay a few cents more, but then went on his rhetoric rant again. The next is when someone asked how do we not become Cuba or Venezuela with his policies. He simply said that he wants to become like Denmark and Norway. Not saying how he will prevent becoming like Cuba in the future, but what he wants to be. He is all rhetoric. As the campaign moves on questions will be harder and if he can't answer he will lose.

  18. The trade agreements have a lot of benefits. Fracking is not at bad as Bernie is making it out to be, if at all. Bernie wants to increase taxes on people and the min. wage to $15/hr which will hurt small businesses and middle class family. Of course Bernie has to end everything with the usual rhetoric of the wealthy getting richer which is bad because.......? Bernie is such a fool.

  19. +Jeremy Chase They have. Here is why. Those countries that got those jobs are developing countries that are much poorer than us. Without those jobs the are prone to radical groups taking them over such as terrorists which have a negative impact on the rest of the world, not just those countries. Those jobs are archaic to us as a developed country. Instead of trying to hold on to archaic jobs we should push people to take on higher skilled jobs. Bernie wants universal healthcare but one problem we have is that we lack facilities, doctors and staff. Pushing people to study STEM fields to advance technology more and have more staff to run healthcare will help in that. Here is where Bernie is regressive. He opposes those trade deals to create jobs. He wants free healthcare, vacation time, free college, extended social security and higher wages. Where is all of that going to come from? Why should I continue to work on my PhD in physical chemistry when I can work at a factory job with guaranteed healthcare, 3 months vacation time, retirement waiting for me and a guaranteed high wage (I say guaranteed because somehow Bernie is going to make this all happen)? Those trade deals have benefits, it is not my fault people choose to be lazy.

That area has almost nothing and it has a terrorist problem. People who are desperate will follow anyone, history has shown that. If you want more healthcare for people and college for people then we have to push people to take on those high skilled jobs. No. We push people to take on higher skilled jobs. But you just admitted that you support businesses failing? And you intern for a tech company. I interned for a research lab and made around that much. That is not comparable to other businesses. Your tech company you work for has a business model that is able to afford higher wages mainly due to the area of the market they are involved in. 5. A lot of small business owners are middle class family. Contrary to popular liberal belief small business owners are not millionaires. 6. You need to learn what wealth is. A homeowner has 30 times more wealth than a renter. The average homeowner has around 60% of their wealth tied into their home. Beyond owning a home the average person has little wealth. Also consider that people are taking out loans to go to college those individuals have negative wealth. I have negative wealth but still own a nice car, computer and have my own apartment I rent in a nice neighborhood for a grad. student. I have negative wealth due to my loans. Wealth has always grown at the top, it isn't bad but actually good for the economy. 7. We try to alleviate the situation by giving them jobs. I guess we should just be isolationists? 8. Terrorist effect the entire world. I guess you are ignoring what happened in France recently? 9. Working in a factory is not similar to working in fast food. In a factory you have to deal with stricter safety regulations and rules. If you did not have to deal with that then you did not work in a factory.   33. TCt83067695, I am going to ask you the same thing I ask every Bernie supporter. So Bernie wants universal healthcare and free college tuition for all. How is he going to provide it? We lack doctors, nurses, surgeons, pharmacists, researchers in healthcare. We lack professors, TAs, tutors, dorms, and numerous skilled workers in both sectors. How are we going to provide those things to people when we don't have the skilled workers to offer it? For example, in my university we lack TAs. We are opening up weekend courses because we lack resources. We are hiring TAs to each a subject they did not even major it because they are a warm body. That is giving the student a lower quality education. So how do we provide those services to people when we lack the skilled workers?

TCt83067695 You didn't answer the question.  We lack skilled workers to offer healthcare and college education to all.  It is a lot of work to earn a doctorate which is why only around 2% of the country has it and the unemployment rate for them is around 2%.  It is not easy work.  Now look at Bernie, you mix in the fact that he wants to give you 1. a living wage 2. healthcare 3. paternity leave 4. vacation time 5. retirement No matter what job you have, where is the incentive to do the stressful work of earning a doctorate? So I will ask again, where will we get the skilled workers to offer college and healthcare to all?

Again, cost of college in those fields are not an issue because the income you earn at the end is worth it.  We lack skilled workers because people simply don't want to put in the work to develop those skills.  Have you ever tried to earn a doctorate in those fields?  If you did you will see the stress involved. You attempted to answer my question but you are missing the point.  People have access to college education with loans. You can get a loan that is around $30,000 and get an undergrad degree like I did.  You can get into grad school and get your schooling paid for.  You can get into the medical field and earn a high income and pay off that loan instantly.  A pharmacist earns around $100,000 a year and can get a job anywhere they want.  Money isn't the issue.  It is the fact that people don't want to put in the work.  Developing such skills takes time and a lot of work.

Bernie is not pushing for that.  He is simply saying "free college" and "free healthcare".  With that why should someone work years in college to become a doctor to work more?  It will behoove them more to work elsewhere with their skill set.  I was planning on becoming a college professor.  I am considering changing because professors are overworked right now with enrollment going up by a lot.  I am looking at the private sector with my skill set to earn money and not be overworked.

  37. reversecourse A total free market is not really the key.  We need government, but we have to keep government as local as possible to ensure it remains the servants and not the masters.  Also, at the state level you have essentially 50 states competing thus they will push for success.  If a state does poorly it will lose skilled and educated workers holding them back.  The problem is that we now have a federal government bailing out failure, including when that failure is a state. But I do agree, we need to get the federal government out of these domestic issues.

Very true.  If  a company is too greedy than no one will work for them or buy from them. "Is there a role for government? Yes. Absolutely. Military protection. Fire services. Police services. Maintenance of public spaces." Military deals with foreign affairs which is constitutional.  Fire, police and public spaces are ran by the local government where the people have more control over.  Even with that around 70% of fire fighters are volunteer.   That was the whole design of this country and the model we should follow.  The problem is that the second you suggest there is something wrong with government you have people on the left who feel that you want to do away with government all together.  The reason why is that they don't see any form of government beyond the federal government.  They don't realize we have state and local government who actually does a lot.

Healthcare isn't a right.  The question comes back to who is going to provide that right to the people?  Are you going to become a doctor?

  40. TCt83067695 Look at the rights listed in the constitution.  With the exception of having a jury, those rights are not provided by anyone. You have the right to free speech, but you can't force a news channel to give you air time.  You have a right to property, but you can't just take it away from someone.  You have a right to bear arms, but you are not given a gun.  You have a right to healthcare.  You just can't force others to provide it to you. "Where are the other states? Where is the federal govt?" And other states should look into it. But the federal government, constitutionally, can't do anything and shouldn't.

  41. reversecourse I agree.  The department of education has done a lot more harm than good.  To me federal standards education is a race to the bottom.  The constitution is the blue print to what will make this country successful.  People need to focus on local governments and limit the power of the federal government.

The federal government having too much power makes it harder to control. The founding fathers wanted to avoid just that.   48.  @TheGoofy1932  you are correct overall. This virus is being overblown. Around half of the deaths are in NY and NJ. Most who are dying of this are old. In MO, a state looking to open up next week, of the 318 deaths 88% of them are 60 and older. Of those under 50 there have only been 11 deaths with no one under 20 dying. And, overall, if you plot death by age it goes up exponentially. In fact, if you use CDC data on deaths by the flu and deaths by the virus and age group, the virus is not any more deadly than the flu is for people under 50.
