Not true. The whole point was to alleviate deaths, we have. We are seeing record number of cases but deaths are still low. We are approaching 15 straight days of less than 1000 deaths. That will tie for the longest streak of less than 1000 deaths. The other time we did this was when this whole situation started. Now is the time for herd immunity. At the rate we are going we will reach it by mid to late July. But the idea was never to stop the spread but alleviate deaths.

Yes as their chances of death is essentially zero. They will then build up an immunity and be fine.

@sudoggs there is evidence of it. Look at states hit the hardest at the beginning. NY, NJ, MA, PA, they saw a huge decline in new cases. CA was one of the first states to shut down and never saw a large decline. NY has been open for some time with bars open, no masks nor social distancing (even though Cuomo wants that), still dropping cases. AZ, FL, CA and others never seen a drop in cases. They are now going towards herd immunity. Also, a recent Penn State study suggests that the case count early one was actually over 80 times higher than what was reported. Thus, in March 30 NY reported around 68,000 cases when in reality they could have had over 5 million.

CA had a shutdown that was just as strict as NY and NJ. They are also enforcing masks now but never saw a decline and are seeing an increase. NY is open now and people are not wearing mask nor social distancing. In fact, some of the largest protests were in the NYC area but cases are not going up. I know many are blaming the protests on the rising cases but I am not one of them. NY had large protest with no social distancing. NY, MA, and NJ saw their cases per day drop over 90%. That is huge. I cite FL and AZ because I said they are on their way. I did not say they had herd immunity, I am saying they are going to experience what NY, NJ and MA did, a huge spike for about a month and than an over 90% drop. And I rely on herd immunity because of our healthcare system. Again, despite increases in cases deaths are not increasing. That was the goal and we met it. We are on our way to 15 straight days of less than 1000 deaths. Also, herd immunity does not have to be met nation wide but mainly in our dense cities.

@sudoggs on average 7500 people die a day in the US. Death is a part of life. Also, the average age is around 80 years old, thus people at risk of death to begin with. We have the highest case count because we are third in overall population. NY had to make mass graves because of many unclaimed bodies. Many were most likely homeless and/or placed in nursing homes by relatives who did not care. And NY is not social distancing, did you see the protest? And many are not wearing masks, Cuomo recently complained about it. And why stop at a mask?Why not a hazmat suit?

Come August we will be back to normal. People are already sick of the media and democrats abusing this virus. First it was to alleviate deaths, now they are concerned about rising cases even though deaths are not going up. They are moving the goal posts. Come mid to late July those states will reach herd immunity and see a sharp decline in cases while deaths do not go up. Then what will be the media's and democrats' excuse? Can't keep Joe Biden hiding for ever.

Not true, it was around 2 million. Also, over 1/3 of the deaths are in NY and NJ. Nation wide deaths are low and despite of increasing cases deaths are not going up.

@Gf Gf he made them sign a waiver because there will be some people who opposes him that goes to the rally, get the virus, and tries to sue him. The left is that crazy these days. But the virus is not that deadly. @kurtlawrence5536 some states do. NY, NJ, MA and PA were hit hard at the beginning. NY, NJ and MA saw their 7 day average of cases per day drop over 90% from their peak. NY and NJ are looking to go to phase 3 now where NJ will allow contact sports. CA shut down early and never saw a decline thus the rising cases.

We do not have to do anything. The virus is not that deadly. In some parts of the nation there is evidence of herd immunity.
