That is true

Why the government? Why not the local community?
1
Crazies will get guns no matter what. They exist. Making them illegal does not eliminate them.
1
@toddmorningstar4206 it does not. There are more guns than people in the US. There are many gun owners. I own 4 and I will not give up any. And no member of the governor can enter my home to do so. You comparison of driver license is poor as many people already drive without a license or without insurance. That is why some, like me, pay for cases of under insured. And drunk driving still happens.
1
Not always. It is a culture thing. Many places are willing to ban abortion and are willing to, as a community, help raise the child. That is why abortion should be a local issue. Yes, in many large cities that would be the case of foster care, but in other places the community will rally to help raise kids.
1
@einienj3281 don't have sex. You have sex you take the risk. Just like if I speed I take the risk of getting into an accident. If I get in an accident and lose an arm I have to live with that. Actions have consequences. Not saying I am anti abortion, what I am saying is that your argument is weak.
1
@einienj3281 at that point you are taking the risk. I have had sex many times, I took the risk knowing I will have to pay child support on my limited budget. You take risks in life and at times you have to suffer the consequences. Life isn't like a video game where you can just hit the reset button.
1
@einienj3281 I agree. Life has risks and you have to work around them. I can avoid all traffic accidents if I don't drive, but then I won't be able to work and make a living. If I get in an accident I have to work around it. Same if someone breaks into my apartment. If you get pregnant you took the risk having sex, now you have to work around it. Not saying I am anti abortion, just saying that many arguments I heard for abortion are weak.
1
@einienj3281 depends on where the child is raised. Many communities help raise the kid. That is why so many places are anti abortion. Some places will not which is why they have relaxed abortion laws. That is why abortion should be left up to the local communities and no centralized law should exist. It is not a black and white issue. Many single months, with help from the local communities, raise their kids just fine. My sister is one of them.

Objectively speaking almost all who died with covid would have been dead in the same timeframe to begin with.
1
@kylewalter3111 one example is that 40% of covid related deaths were nursing home patients. A UCSF report from a few years ago stated that 50% of new nursing home patients die in 6 months and the average lifespan of them is a year. Here we are 2 years in this. Nursing home patients are high risk of death to begin with with a high death rate in a one year time. So in this 2 year timeframe almost all of those nursing home patients dying with covid would be dead anyways.
1
@kylewalter3111 considering how the CDC is deceptive in how they report the numbers I have a hard time trusting them anymore. Along with that, do they factor in issues like psychological issues, the economy, etc.? How about those other studies? Many felt a lot that we did and continue to do does more harm. Fact is that people die all the time. As I said, objectively speaking almost all who died with covid would have been dead in the same timeframe to begin with. I have you one example. How about another. If you plot covid deaths as a function of age and survival probability as a function of age the graphs are essentially the same.
1
@kylewalter3111 so no counter argument? Fact is that almost all who died with covid would have died in the same timeframe to begin with. I gave you two data sets as is. What have you given? Nothing. You say "multiple studies", well, which ones?
1
@kylewalter3111 nearly 3 million die a year in the US as is. And how many people died due to increases in substance abuse from the lockdowns? How many people developed weaker immune systems by not being able to go to the gym or increase in depression from the lockdowns? How many of those with weaker immune system caught covid and died but would have lived if they were just going about their lives? But again, people die all the time. You are so concerned about just the virus you ignore everything else.
1
@kylewalter3111 the lockdowns led to me drinking heavily and going to detox twice. The 2nd time I was talking to a person there and she lost her business of 5 years because of the lockdowns. That caused her to drink a lot to go into detox. But yeah, I guess don't care about those people. Just care about an old person from catching covid when they were going to die anyways.
1
Those mandates don't work.
1
@lajohnson1967 mandates do not work. Look at Michigan. They had some of the strictest covid protocols and they are now facing the highest covid cases and hospitalizations. The best route is what Sweden did, let the virus run its course. Denmark, Finland and Norway are seeing record cases where Sweden is doing fine. All the mandates did was cause more damage.
1
@lajohnson1967 where I live we are wide open. No masks. Things are fine
1
@lajohnson1967 the mandates don't work. Stop being scared
1
@lajohnson1967 no, deaths from covid are not up in those areas. Things are fine.
1
@lajohnson1967 if covid was that dangerous areas that are wide open, such as where I live now, would be seeing a massive death rate compared to other places. They aren't. It appears stats are a difficult subject for you, but when you break it down there is no significant differences between places that had strict covid restrictions and those that did not and their outcomes. In fact, look at Sweden. No lockdowns and they are doing great. While Finland, Denmark and Norway are seeing record cases Sweden is doing fine.
1
@lajohnson1967 how is Michigan doing? High vaccination rate, they have strong restrictions, they did in 2020, now seeing record cases. It's ok though, ignorance is strong with you. Study science some day bud.
1
@lajohnson1967 deny what? Been living in a free state. No masks, no social distancing. You would think with this virus we would all be dead. But we are fine.
1
@lajohnson1967 there is no evidence to support your claim. You saying "look it up" is proof of that. Look it up where? Fox New? Daily Wire?
1
@lajohnson1967 if this virus is really that dangerous then places like where I live it will be seeing a noticeably high death rate. We aren't. Again, it appears statistics appear to be difficult for you, but when you break it down with all the variables involved there is no significant differences in death rates between states with covid protocols and those that don't have them. Besides, Michigan was doing strict lockdowns in 2020. Now they are seeing record cases and hospitalizations but don't want to do lockdowns. Why? Covid was purely political. And need I remind you about the Nordic nations and how well Sweden is doing compared to others?
1
@lajohnson1967 do you have a source for your claim? You say look up the stats and how people vote. That is vague. Many counties have independents. For example, Virginia voted for Biden by a wide margin but now just voted in republicans in a recent election. So what election results should we look at? The 2020 election? The 2016? So defining what is a "democrat" area or "republican" area can be difficult in many ways. If such a strong trend exists it would be readily available for all to see. The fact you can't provide a source says a lot.
1
@lajohnson1967 also, as I said, look at Nordic nations. Sweden did not lock down. Their cases are not going up right now where Norway, Denmark and Finland are seeing record number cases. Or look at Michigan and how they had massive restrictions and lockdowns early on and even now have a high vaccination rate and are seeing record hospitalizations. Fact is the covid restrictions did not work. All it did was delay what was going to happen, which is the virus spreading along with destroying the economy and people's lives. The covid restrictions caused more problems.
1
@lajohnson1967 Michigan has a democrat governor and Michigan voted for Biden. They are seeing their highest death total right now.
1
@lajohnson1967 Tennessee has low cases now. And the lockdowns are not working with this virus. It is still spreading. And hospitals have always been full. In 2017 a city in CA had to create temporary ICU rooms as they were being overfilled with patients with the flu. So what is incorrect in anything I said? How are things I say right wing talking points.
1
@lajohnson1967 but areas did lockdown last year and it did nothing. As I said with Sweden, they did not lockdown and while their Nordic neighbors are seeing record cases now and increases in deaths, Sweden is doing fine. Fact is the lockdowns caused more problems because it delayed the situation of the virus spreading no matter what and hurt the economy.
1
@lajohnson1967 it did not slow down the spread. The virus still spread. And the vaccine does not reduce the spread. A study out of Harvard saw no correlation between in areas of vaccination rate and infection rates. But if the vaccine works, why still wear masks? Why does Michigan, with a high vaccination rate, is seeing record cases and hospitalizations?
1
@lajohnson1967 did lockdowns work? Substance abuse shot up in that time. Telling people to stay home where they can't go to gyms, concerts, sporting events, run their business, see their friends and family etc. is not good psychologically. How many died due to a weaker immune system from all of that leading to higher depression? How many were harmed from substance abuse? The big issue is that the only discussion was the virus, nothing else. There is evidence that the lockdowns caused more damage. As for the current spread, as I said, there is no correlation between vaccination rates and infection rates. A Harvard study reported that.
1
@lajohnson1967 "Increases in COVID-19 are unrelated to levels of vaccination across 68 countries and 2947 counties in the United States" That is the title of the Harvard study.
1
@lajohnson1967 I get my data from Worldometer which gets their data from the state's dashboards that report to the CDC. On the lockdowns, again, one can argue they did more harm. Substance abuse spiked during that time. The economy fell apart. Depression went up. How many people died due to a weaker immune system from depression? That is a factor. How many people died from substance abuse? All the lockdowns did was delay what was going to happen anyways, that is the virus spreading while creating other problems. Again, Sweden never locked down. They are doing great compared to their Nordic neighbors who are seeing record cases. I guess those nations or states like Michigan seeing high cases can lock down again, but for how long? We can't hide forever? The longer a lockdown goes on the more damage it does until that damage is worse than the virus.
1
@lajohnson1967 why are you ignoring Sweden? No lockdowns and they are out of this.
1
@lajohnson1967 Sweden has been dropping in deaths per capita over time where other states are jumping over them. Their Nordic neighbors are seeing record high cases and deaths and will catch up to Sweden over time. All the lockdowns did was delay what was going to happen but also destroying the economy at the same time. Why are you ignoring facts?
1
@lajohnson1967 TN has low cases bud. I just looked at the map as well. Cases are down. What are you looking at?
1
@lajohnson1967 BTW, worldometer uses the same data the CDC does. That is data from the state's dashboards. And looking at the CDC data it falls in line with worldometer. Facts babe.....they matter.
1
It may poll high but it is not one of the top issues for people. The economy and covid are right now, and with how Biden and the democrats have handled that, even with Roe v Wade being overturned it still won't have a big influence, if any in the next elections.
1
She can choose not to have sex.
1
@bobwehadababyitsaboy6033 how do women not have a choice? If you are talking about rape all these anti abortion laws allow abortion if rape occurred. As with men, men pay child support. It is the one of the sayings of "the right to choice a man's wallet". There is an issue of women having so many babies they get enough child support to live. I met women like that.
1
@kerrybock766 not a solid argument bud.
1
@bobwehadababyitsaboy6033 so those men are breaking the law or they are dead beats who make no money. As for emotional support, I agree, that should take place. But with many places that do have anti abortion laws usually the community is willing to help raise the kid. That is why many places are anti abortion, they are willing to help. That is why abortion should be left up to the local community.
1
@bobwehadababyitsaboy6033 not a convincing argument. I lived in a community that helped out single mothers. My sister is a single mother and received a lot of help. They exist. That is why abortion is debatable. Yes, in many urban places where the community is not that well connected I see the need to have relaxed abortion laws. But in others where the community is stronger there is a reason why strict abortion laws exist.
1
MS is not that poor. And many places that are anti abortion are willing, as a community, help raise the kid.
1
In many places that are anti abortion they are communities that will rally to help raise kids in that situation. Foster care is not a big issue in those places. That is why abortion should remain a local issue as many places the culture is willing to help the mother where in others they aren't.
1
@samuraikitten it isn't just adoption. I lived in a community where people were highly supportive of single mothers. My sister was a single mother and the community helped her out a lot donating cloths and food. That is why abortion should be a local issue. In some areas, as in larger cities, I can see how people don't support others. I actually lived in a city that was just like that and can see why abortion is allowed. But in others the culture is different.
1
Uh, how do you control gun sales? There are more guns than people in the US. They are not going away.
1
@lduker9731 those nations have different cultures as well. The issue is not guns, it is culture. Take the UK vs the US for example. If you were to find a magical law to eliminate all gun murders in the US, the US will still have around the same murder rate to that of the UK. The US has areas that simply are more violent. So it isn't guns, it is culture. At that point all gun laws will do it keep them out of the hands or law abiding citizens where criminals will be the only ones who own them.
1
Different issues. No one is forcing the woman to get pregnant, she has to do an act to get pregnant, which is sex. There is where the difference lies.
1
You sure about that with today's technology?
1
@WYCDfoxxxyDragon there are people that can't survive without some machine as is. So why not factor that in with a fetus?
1
@WYCDfoxxxyDragon possibly. That is where the law becomes muddy.
1
800,000 people dying how? Nearly 3 million die a year in the US to begin with.
1
The difference is that in an abortion you have another living thing involved in the baby.
1
@lajohnson1967 uh, it depends. Many babies come out early. Please educate yourself.
1
@lajohnson1967 keeping the baby in the womb is preferred. But it can survive outside of it sooner than 24 weeks. Educate yourself
1
@lajohnson1967 ok. Whatever. Deny reality I guess
1
@lajohnson1967 how so? A fetus can survive outside of the womb less than 24 weeks. You bring up your own individual situation with zero context and nothing else. I am not saying the chances of survival are high. I am saying it can happen and that is what makes some of these abortion laws muddy. Stop trying to look smart because you're failing miserably at it.
1
@lajohnson1967 not a counter argument.
1
Men do, they have to pay child support. There is the old "right for the women to choose a man's wallet".
1
@lawrencemaweu no, the legal system looks as their tax records to see how much money they actually make a year and base child support on that.
1
