Eltrio2, to answer your first question, people have a right a trial by jury. If you are called for jury duty and refuse then you go to jail. Thus you are forced to do jury duty. The same idea would apply if healthcare is considered a "right".
2
Prometheus, healthcare is not a right in those nations either.
2
Prometheus, a couple things. To start, in other countries healthcare is not a "right" but instead something the government decided to pay for. You are not guaranteed anything. Next, what happens legally in other countries is different in the US. People have a right to a trial by jury. If you are called for jury duty in the US and refuse you go to jail. The same will happen with healthcare. If you refuse to serve someone in healthcare you will go to jail if it is a right. That is why many public services, such as education and police, are not rights. They are services provided by the government. You have no right to education, only the right to pursue it. That is why we do not force people to become teachers which is why we have a shortage of them.
2
Prometheus, great for the UK. This is the US. Also, with your tone I can tell you are not well educated here so I will move on.
2
Prometheus, what goes on in the UK is different than the US.

Bloo, if you make healthcare ran by the government that would mean lower wages. That is a problem other countries face. Saying that other countries have it is not an argument. You are ignoring many factors involved in this. You and other leftists bring that up because you have no argument to support universal healthcare as you do not understand the complexity of it. Bu t back on doctors, they are paid well. We still lack them because people, like you and other leftists who want universal healthcare, refuse to do the work to become a doctor or simply can't do it. Also, Canada has less specialists than the US. They have general practitioners but that is a very basic task compared to a specialist such as a surgeon. That is why Canada has longer wait times.

Leroy, medicare for all will not be cheaper. It makes zero sense economically to increase demand of something and see the price go down.
1
Bloo, other develop nations make sacrifices to "afford" it such as lowered quality and less R&D. As for defense spending, that is less than 4% of GDP. Healthcare is 1/6 of GDP. Even is we were to magically lower prices down to what other countries have it would still be around 10% of GDP. Point being is that cutting defense spending is not going to do anything.

Becky, you just said we are the wealthiest country in the world and the only country without universal healthcare. Ever thought there is a correlation there?
1
GhostlyJorg, what is their quality? Their R&D? How are those programs ran? How is the overall culture? Consider how our country has high obesity.
1
People do not want medicare for all. Also, it is not a smart solution. It is a losing position.
1
Bloo, what if there are no doctors? Or what if there are too few doctors? At that point you have force doctors to work more to ensure everyone has their "right" to healthcare.
1
Henry, there is more to the overhead issue than you know. To start, a lot of overhead by the private system is in programs like disease awareness and fraud prevention which saves cost. Medicare can pass disease awareness to the CDC.

Te Soh, Bernie and Kyle are extreme left. In some ways they are authoritarian left. CA primaries are today. Let us see how Alison Hartson does.

I wanted Mr. Purple.

The US system does many things very well. Every system has shortcomings and has advantages. As a whole the US system is on par with other nations.

Tap water is no where near as complex as healthcare.
