@thepolishlatinofromphilly9709 states like IL and NY are open about inflating the death numbers. Also, people die for many reasons. 92% who have died because of the virus are 55 and older. Almost all who died are either old or have other health complications to begin with, thus were at high risk of death overall. There is also data out of Germany, USC and the University of Miami suggesting the infection rate is much higher making this virus less deadly. At this point we are on the path of what is worse, the virus or the bad economy? A bad economy can lead to death as well. Also, as I mentioned, people die for many reasons, but we do not shut down that nation. For example, 40,000 die a year in traffic accidents but we do not ban driving. There is a political divide on this virus. Those on the left have an irrational fear of it at this point as they are refusing to look at the data. Also, as I said in the past, this is a far leftists' dream. Kill the private sector and make people depend on the government.

@Babygirlly555 we are not really living. I, despite orders not to, have been going to work at the university because I don't care. I understand the virus is not that deadly. The issue is that no one else is going to work so either I am home alone or in my lab alone. Neither is really healthy. Looking at this politically there is a divide. Those on the left want to continue the shut down. I really feel this virus is their dream. It is killing the private sector and making people depend on the government. Sad really.

@CB-db1qx a lot of those deaths are overstated. For example, someone with other health complications dying while having COVID is listed as a COVID death even though the virus may not have contributed. There is evidence coming out that the virus is not that deadly and arguably less deadly than the flu. The issue is that we are actually tracking these deaths as opposed to other deaths that occur in life. Thus it is creating an irrational fear.

Again, 40,000 die a year in traffic accidents but we do not bat an eye. You are talking about 60,000 which is less than 0.02% of the overall population. Statistically these people are also old or sick to begin with and are at a high chance of dying. Basically we are shutting down the nation so 80 year old grandma does not get the virus but dies three months later from falling down and breaking her hip. Is that really a success?

How about we just lock ourselves in rubber rooms? Why not go that extreme? Again, more data is coming out that this virus is not that deadly. Stop living in fear.

@thepolishlatinofromphilly9709 driving, like the virus, places others at risk and causes deaths. But we do not ban driving. And again, those deaths are inflated. For example, someone with the virus who died of heart disease is listed as a virus death even though the virus was not the main contributor, the heart disease was and they were going to die anyway. Again, stop living in fear.

They should not be bailed out. Bailing out states will hinder them opening up. We need to start opening up the economy. There is a reason why many states are opening back up.

@Babygirlly555 yes. At this point it comes down to what is worse, the virus or the bad economy? Gov. Coumo is simply denying the fact that the bad economy is causing harm. Basically the left is using this as a power grab. We need to re open the economy and take the risk.

@mehdihatami3391 sorry for the late response. These days we have more technology and thus more information. Studies out of Germany, University of Miami and USC suggests that the virus is not that deadly and that more people than expected have become infected and required on medical treatment. Add in the fact that some places are open about overstating the deaths you have a situation where this virus is not that dangerous. There is also doubt that the lock down is actually doing anything.

@mehdihatami3391 It is more than just the LA study but also a study out of Germany, Santa Clara County and Miami. All suggesting that the infection rate is much higher making the death rate lower. Also, the deaths are being overstated and states like IL and NY are open about that. Around 30% of virus "deaths" are assumed with no actual testing. To add, there are other issues as well. Weather can play a role. Some of the states with the highest deaths per million are NY, NJ, MD and other states in the northeast part of the nation, states that are colder in March where warmer weather is shown to alleviate the spread. Also, almost all who die are either old or sick to begin with. For example, 92% who have died are 55 and older. Basically, people who are at high risk of dying of almost any form of illness. At this point we are shutting down the economy so 80 year old grandma does not die from the virus but dies 3 months later from falling down and breaking her hip. Is that really a success?

@mehdihatami3391 I know they have flaws, but 5 sets of data suggesting the same thing says something. Also, the DHS suggests that warm weather does slow down the spread. And according to the CDC 92% of people dying are 55 and older. At some point we are going to have people look at the risk themselves and live life.

@mehdihatami3391 the DHS recently had a press briefing showing data that humidity, sunlight, and warm weather can kill the virus faster. It was the same conference where people took what Trump said about light and disinfectant out of context. Do that many have to go to the hospital? All the antibody data suggests that the virus is not that deadly. There are flaws in the measurements that should be known, but that is what the data is suggesting right now. More needs to be looked at but I feel we are on the path that the bad economy is worse than the virus and we should start opening up the economy in some places.

@mehdihatami3391 sure they are inaccurate, but not by that much. Also, consider some other stats. Around half of the deaths are in NY and NJ. If you go by age group with the flu, 2017 to 2018 data, of the deaths around 5.6% of them were under 50 years old. With the virus, using CDC data (same with the flu data), 92% who died are 55 and older. 2.8% who died of the virus are under the age of 45. With the data there is that 5 year gap from 45 to 50 I can't get from the CDC with the virus but can with the flu, but based on these numbers, for those under 50, the virus does not appear that deadly. Can we afford not to reopen? You also have the issue of the more we stay locked up our immune system gets weaker. We have to start considering opening up and interacting in public.
