It is safe to say this student has never been in a civil discussion on the gun issue. I feel bad for the tragedy they faced, but this kid is acting very immature and his argument is easily dismissed.

They won't lose their jobs. Give it some time and emotions will calm down and people will view the issue rationally. Also, these are kids. They tend to be over emotional due to lack of life experience.

Justin X, I can easily say "this kid need to stop being a bitch and learn some facts". How should I be treated if I stared with that?

Justin X, I am all for having a civil debate. It isn't about them being the "bitch" for the NRA. They support gun rights and so does the NRA. Thus the NRA donates to their campaign. This individual can raise money to donate to politicians who support gun control There are civil, and intelligent ways to have discussion. As a gun rights supporter I love this to be honest. The dumber this kid acts the less likely new gun laws will be passed.

Sonny, to start you have to consider if it is an issue to begin with. Let us have a discussion on guns. Find out how severe the issue really is, and then lay out ideas on how to tackle it. Agreed?

"Those kids don’t need to know the mechanical intricacies of an ar15 to know that there should be improved background checks, " They should as there are a plethora of guns just as deadly. The VA Tech shooter used pistols. As for background checks we have them already. Tell me how a background check would have stopped any of these shootings, including this one in Parkland. If you want to discuss background checks, or any new law, you have to relate it to the shooting that just happened.

Vulcano, I heard from the other students, and there are students who disagree with them that the media is ignoring. When one student said it was easier to buy a fully automatic than it was to make weekend plans with friends I cannot take them serious. Or when one said that when they saw Rubio they see the barrel of an AR 15 and Cruz on the other end, that is grounds for dismissal.

AnotherKS, the NRA donates money to politicians who support the 2nd amendment. Why is that wrong? Also, NRA money is minute compared to other funds.
1
Hinikuna, they have not tried civil discussions. They are making immature remarks that I am dismissing. To be honest these kids should be seeking therapy, not being on the media pushing an agenda they know little about.

"What, his argument that the NRA pays government officials to block gun control legislation? " Not true. They fund elections for politicians who support gun rights.

" If so, would you consider 96 gun homicides a day an 'issue'?" Not all homicides are equal. One that involved gangs is not equal to one that involves innocent bystanders. Out of those 96 how many were out of self defense? How many were drug deals gone wrong? How many were gang related? Even at that homicides are a factor of many variables, not just guns. Take the UK for example. The US has a murder rate that is 5 times higher than the UK. But if you were to remove all gun murders from the US the murder rate is still two times higher than the UK. What does that mean? Well we have an issue in society that causes us to be more violent. Now is all of this an issue? Yes. I want the murder rate to be zero. But nothing is ideal. Getting that may be impossible. But I am all for lowering the overall murder rate, not just the gun murder rate. In order to do that you have to put these numbers in perspective. But yes, I agree, it is an issue. So let's talk.

ometta7, and I feel bad for him. I think he should seek counseling. However, that does not make him an expert on the gun issue. My doctor have never had cancer. So does that mean he can't help people with cancer?

A Plate of Hot Dogs, John Lott released a study showing that other nations, such as France, Norway and Finland, have more mass shootings. He did a study comparing apples to apples. Now does that mean we don't have an issue or that other countries are worse off? No. It means there is a lot to the data you have to accept and realize. What I mean is that there are a lot tied to these numbers beyond guns. Is it fair to compare a gang related shooting to this shooting in Parkland? One is an issue of gangs. "(almost 90% of gun related deaths are caused by people armed with handguns). This is why I believe in improving background checks to actually warrant you get a psychological screening in exchange for a license prior to purchasing a firearm," What kind of screening? Also, you are going down the path of removing rights without due process. Many people have mental problems of some kind on the books but committed no crimes. That is me including. I have traits of autism and I have seen a therapist. Should I be banned from owning a gun? I never harmed anyone in my life, but I have red flags. As for a license, I find this ironic as the same people pushing for that refuse to have IDs for voting.

"As I've already said, this wouldn't bother me if these politicians were more honest about their motives." Rubio is honest in his support for gun rights.

" I just wish said politicians would A) admit they're taking money and that's why they're blocking reform and B) stop taking the moral high ground and making this about the Constitution, God's will etc. when really it's about cashing a check." They admit they support gun rights, and thus the NRA funds their elections. You have to realize what is the chicken and what is the egg here.

Yep, that is a way to establish civil discussion and progress. Just call people "bitches". This why no new gun law will get passed.

Justin X, it isn't about disagreeing. This kid called politicians the "bitch" of the NRA. Right away I am dismissing his argument as he does not want to act civil.
