We are top of the food chain, do you really thing the cheetah cares if the animal they eat suffers or not? This sounds like a big idiot vegans support. Seriously, why do you hate jobs and people making money?

Chris Douthitt Yes, humans are more civil in a lot of ways, but we are also pack animals. Just like a pack of dogs will attack an animal for food, even after it is wounded they will still go after it for food. Us as humans will do what is necessary for food and survival and progress. To us those pigs are food, that is it. Treated them differently still doesn't change their fate that they are food to us. Asking for a farmer to take action that reduces profits and thus reduces investment and growth isn't good for a society. People demand meat and thus it is being given to them. You also have to consider the extreme point to this, there are a group of people who think it is necessary that animals have the same rights as humans. That is a concern to me. I would be honest, in some ways I support this law, in the big picture I don't but I don't oppose it that much, it is just that the people who support it the most are the ones that don't want any animal caged up or killed for food. One has to always consider that when thinking of laws like this.

Reading some of these comments it amazes me how stupid some people are. Why do you want to hurt the profits of pig farmers and their jobs? Honestly, how many of these liberals actually been on a farm? Here is the simple fact, we are the top of the food chain, do you think other wild animals care about how the other one feels? There is a reason why a sick or injured animal naturally hides, because in the wild they will be the first caught and eaten. A predator isn't going feel remorse for an animal that is sick and dying. It is stuff like this that makes my head explode. This is why we have poor people in the world, liberals want to ban any kind of production and give things away.

Pants What is unnecessary suffering? Being caged up at all can be it. Not allowing it to roam free on it's own could be not allowing conditions that are reasonable. That is the game that could be played and there are people who play it. One could say that we should let them be free and only hunt them when we need them. It is true that not allowing more room for animals to roam leads to lesser quality of meat. Growing up in a farming community I have never seen animals treated like this. To me it seems that the farmers that treat them like this would be the ones that want a lot of cheap meat that is sold at a low price in places like Walmart. I never eat meat like that anyway, I do go to stores with better meat departments that most likely had animals who had more room to roam. When I was living at home we got all of our meat from my uncle who was a farmer. But in the end these animals are going to die, and preventing farmers from finding a way to maximize profits isn't the best solutions.

fruitdoesntbleed I know we don't have to eat animals to survive, I eat them because they are good to eat. Honestly I avoid meat from animals treated like this, if I am going to pay for a steak or eggs or bacon I want it from a free ranged animal in that the meat taste better.

ItsOver90o0 You know, there were native americans who tortured animals to make them taste better.
