Who is the blind one here? Looking at deaths per cases is legit. Trump is correct here. Also, Trump is being a good leader here. While the media and Fauci do nothing but fear monger, Trump is showing positive progress to encourage people to keep working. When all you do is fear monger you make things worse.

I feel we are achieving herd immunity. Many states, I feel, reached it in NY, NJ, MI, MD, etc. States hit hard at the beginning but then saw a sharp decline in cases. Now FL, TX, AZ, CA are seeing a decline in cases and we are nationwide. It appears we are approaching herd immunity.

In comparison to cases he has a point. The interviewer was bringing up per population, which is fair, but when you go by cases we are excelling. They bring up Germany but we have more tests per million and our ratio of deaths per cases is lower than Germany. It shows that even with cases we have the ability to cure them. Also, 1000 deaths a day is low compared to where we are at in April.

C W different points. Using a parachute is fine as I know there is an end, I will reach the ground safely. That as opposed to saying if you jump from a plane that no matter what, even with a parachute, you are still going to die. Well, I am not leaving the plane. With this virus, the media has done nothing but fear monger. So at that point, in no matter what we do such as close bars, close schools, wear masks, etc. nothing improves, why do it? But when you bring up positive progress like Trump is doing here it encourages people to keep fighting as there is an end. But with the constant fear mongering and no mention of positive progress, tell me, why do what we do? Open back up.

C W when all you do is fear monger it creates chaos. Also, when the fear mongering involves moving the goal posts and having zero standards, it creates problems. First it was deaths, and then not opening up too soon, and then cases even with low deaths. And now deaths are being reported even though they are still lower then in April. No standards.

@debaronAZK treatments are starting to come. A Dallas doctor is using an inhaler version of a medicine for asthma and it is working. Not as a cure but to reduce the symptoms. Also, if you want to use deaths per capita then fine. Look at the states hit the hardest early one, NY, NJ, MI, ME, MD, etc. All have higher deaths per capita compared to states just hit hard recently, FL, TX, CA, AZ, etc. So based on that it appears we have made positive progress on this virus. Also, he cannot enforce lock downs, only governors can. Also, do the lock downs really work?

So why would Trump push for it then? His "expert" working for him said not to wear them. And what could he have done? He banned travel with China and was called xenophobic. If he would have went farther you guys would have called him a dictator. It is no win for you guys.

@sharper68 hospitals are always full. Having empty hospitals is not good financially. Hospitals need to make money so they are always full. And cases are starting to drop and deaths are still low.

@maliktp13 what studies? You can't predict how well masks work. This virus is new. I was reading a comment respiratory specialist in FL who said he has never seen anything like this in 29 years. The virus enters the community, spreads very fast, and then is gone. A Penn State study suggested that early infection numbers are off and were actually 80 times higher then what was being recorded. In CA they are wearing masks and cases still went up. This virus is that contagious. So there is little to no evidence masks would have saved thousands of lives. I know why Fauci said what he said about masks, it was to prevent a shortage of them for healthcare workers. Either way, Fauci said do not wear them. So how is that Trump's fault? Trump is trying to remain calm which good leaders do. That is something Dan Crenshaw brought up when talking with Bill Maher. On the battlefield you remain calm. In times of crisis you remain calm. What did you want him to do? And how was our response poor compared to other nations? Every state shut down, which I feel did not work. Sweden did not and they ended up in the same boat in the end. 1000 dying a day is low compared to around 2500 dying in April.

Carissa Wu NY reached herd immunity during that time. FL is now reaching it. That is why cases are now dropping. I ran through the numbers and found that a state's peak of the 7 day average in cases is around 0.03% of a state's population. There is some variance but that is the trend I found using states like NY, MI, NJ, etc. that peaked first and then decline. FL is now passing their peak. Also, NY was seeing around 900 deaths a day at times. Trump could not do a mask mandate as that is federal overreach. Only states can.Trump did all he can do, ban travel with China. The president is limited in power and for good reasons.

@maliktp13 he is calm for the most part. You do not see him acting hysterical and fear mongering every step of the way. And with what he says it is forcing people to have discussions which we are not having. Dems are to blame for this, democrat ran states have some of the highest death rates, and they have some of the strictest lock down measures despite them having low cases now. Gyms are not allowed to reopen in NJ despite low cases. Why? Because the democrat governor there wants to make people miserable. Congress is failing at getting a stimulus. Trump has done very well compared to our other leaders. Google it? How about you supply the studies if you know them so well. Cases have gone up because this virus is contagious. No real way to stop the spread. I was reading a comment from a respiratory specialist in FL where he said he never experienced a virus like this in 29 years. It enters a community, spreads real fast, and then goes away. He saw it in that all of a sudden hospitals were filled, but now they are starting to empty just as quickly. " Again with better planning this could have mitigated to a degree" What plan? Hindsight is 20/20. Never has this nation ever shut down to this degree during a pandemic. They did not with the Hong Kong flu of 1968. And yes, 1000 deaths is low compared to the 2500 deaths we were seeing. People are going to die. If your goal is zero deaths that will never be achieved.

Carissa Wu The federal government has two roles, deal with foreign affairs and commerce between states. Everything else is left up to the states. The federal troops in Portland are protecting a federal court house. That is federal property, so they have the right to do that. They were not stopping rioters from burning a police union building. ICE is immigration, a part of foreign affairs. Killing an Iranian general is foreign affairs. What control over Twitter? But besides the Twitter one, which I do not know of, all you mentioned are within the limited powers of the federal government.

@heinzbaron9129 it is blown out of proportion. At the beginning it was about deaths. Pictures of mass graves and lines of temporary morgues in NY. When deaths dropped it went to we cannot reopen too soon. Have to stay lockdown. We reopen in some places and was fine until June. Then cases went up and the next point was cases, not deaths, cases. The fear mongering shifted to cases. Now deaths ticked up a bit and that has now shifted to that, even though deaths are still low compare to April. When you do all of that, do nothing but fear monger in different ways, shifting the scenario, while also providing zero news of positive progress, such as the recovery rate going up since March 24, or how deaths are lower despite twice as many cases, it divides our nation into three camps. One, people who are in fear, two, people who are confused, and three, people who say "to hell with it" and don't care. If you give positive news at times it shows we are making progress and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We just have to hang in there and keep fighting. But when it is nothing but fear mongering you have people like me saying that "what is the point, if no positive progress is being made just open back up" because apparently what we are doing it not working.

Carissa Wu people are going to die no matter what. We do not want people to die from traffic accidents but we still allow driving. People die from the flu but we do not shut down for that. You also ignore my point of suicides and depression going up. So again, someone does not die from the virus, they die from suicide.

Carissa Wu Yes, but on the situation of traffic accidents, the flu and suicides there is an end goal. With this virus there appears to be no end as all that is being presented is fear mongering. No news of positive progress. So with that why do what we do if nothing positive is coming from it? That is the problem. Why wear masks? It is not doing anything. Why continue the shut downs? It is not doing anything. When the media does nothing but give fear mongering stories there appears to be no end.

Now Dr. Birx is saying we need to reset and Fauci is saying wear goggles. NY has low cases because they reached herd immunity. CA is requiring masks but is seeing high cases. So I see nothing to suggest masks work. Also, suicides are up. So you do not care about people committing suicides?

Trump is correct. 1000 deaths a day is low compared to April when we had almost 3000 deaths a day. In April we had around 30,000 cases a day but now around 60,000 a day. More cases, less deaths. You cannot just throw out a number without perspective. As with deaths per cases, that is a legit way to look at it. Compared to Germany, where we have more test per million, we have a lower death per cases ratio. That is good. It means that even with cases we can treat our patients. The media is just going to fear monger. Trump is basically the only leader out there trying to give positive progress, which we have done. Giving positive progress makes a light at the end of the tunnel. When you just fear monger it divides people.

A part of being a good leader is giving the full story and keeping people calm in a time of crisis. Trump is trying that. Problem is the media just wants to fear monger and criticize him. Fauci and the media has done nothing but fear monger. They keep shifting the goal posts from first deaths, then do not open up, then cases, and now deaths (even though they are low). Nothing about positive progress such as the recovery rate continues to climb, deaths compared to cases are low and so on. Fear mongering creates chaos. It is one thing to be cautious, but you need to give the public something to be encouraged about. Trump is trying that as he is a good leader.

@Babygirlly555 unlike most people here I have been in leadership positions. When we analyzed our employees and spoke to them we would tell them something positive, then something they need to work on, and then something positive. It wasn't negative, but it wasn't all sugar coating either. There is a middle ground. Far leftists here do not seem to understand that.

@f_f_f_8142 you can argue that. It shows that even with more cases deaths are low. Also, in March around 24% of cases came up positive, now it is 8%. Overall, Trump is doing what the media and Fauci won't, that is show we are making progress. Doing that encourages people to hang in there as there is a light at the end of the tunnel. When Fauci says the virus won't go away and says to now where goggles, and Birx says we need to reset, and the media switches from one fear mongering scenario to the next, it discourages people making things worse.

@Lampropeltis001 while testing rates can vary using deaths per case shows that even when someone is infected we have a handle on this to where they can get cured. Using deaths per population doesn't show how many actual cases there were. That is one issue with this virus. The number of cases listed is lower than what it should be showing this virus is not that deadly. Overall, Trump is pushing the point that we made positive progress, which no one in the media nor Fauci are doing. It shows there is a light at the end of the tunnel and encourages people. Instead, people like Fauci and the media just wants us to be miserable.

@Lampropeltis001 here is the bigger issue in trying to compare other nations. This guy brought up S. Korea, a nation of 50 million people. We have over 320 million. So that alone makes it difficult. Also, cultures are different. Asian cultures are typically healthier to begin with as a whole. So there is that. As for lowering infections, that is not really a big goal because if infections are high, but deaths are low, that is not a problem. It is lowering the death rate which we have. Cases are up but deaths are still low. So at the very least we have to admit we have this virus more under control then in the past. That is the problem with the media though, they do not want to hear that as it will make Trump look good.

It shows that we can discuss opening back up as even if more become infected the death toll will be low. The whole idea was to lower deaths, never to stop the spread. Also, what is the standard of deaths per day? When I watched this interview apparently it is 1000. So if we go back down to below 1000 a day is that when we open back up? That is another issue with this virus, no one is creating standards. Also, many deaths are avoidable. On average 7500 die a day in the US, many that are avoidable. Cain was also 74 years old and had cancer at one point.

@Lampropeltis001 the thing is that we need to look at this virus from all angles. Doing so will give us a better idea what to do and how to do it and when we should open back up, because the lock downs are causing problems as well.

You have to have something to compare that number to. You can't just throw numbers out there and expect them to mean anything. People die all the time, so is 160,000 high, or low, or the norm? Hard to say. Along with that we have to really consider getting back to normal, so what is the normal rate of deaths acceptable with this virus? We need to discuss that. Why get back to normal? Suicides are up, antidepressant use is up, substance abuse is up. Consider how many are suffering because of the bad economy. You are never going to completely stop deaths.

You have seen that all throughout history with certain leaders. That is why a limited government was created.

Carissa Wu they have limits. The president cannot declare war, Congress does. Congress creates trade deals. In the case of killing the general, it is the same as Obama with Bin Laden. It was a situation to act now to take out one particular person. Why bring up China and Russia? International law has no power over us.

If they want to laugh than fine, what will they do to manage a nation of 320+ million people? The lockdowns are an overreach. In many states cases are low now. NJ is one of them but gyms are still closed. Why? Cuomo talked about following "Trump's" CDC guidelines when he placed infected people into nursing homes (he wasn't following it), but when his case numbers were dropping over a month he did not open up even though the CDC said after 14 days of declining cases you can. And care to give me proof he tried to steal medical supplies? From what I have seen we are giving medicals supplies to other nations like we always do. And others are to blame for their failures of the pandemic. Trump did what he always does, give power to the states and let them manage it. For as much as the left calls hims a dictator he has no problem giving up power. And yes, you need to look at the positive in all of this. Being completely negative that the media and people like Fauci are creates three camps of people, those that are in fear, those who are confused, and those who are like me saying "to hell with it, let us open back up because apparently nothing we are doing is working". The fact is that all that is being done right now is to make our lives miserable so Biden can win. Democrats have no problem stripping us of our rights and liberties to gain power. Trump is one of the greatest presidents of all time. The economy was booming under him, home ownership going up, wages going up, worker participation going up, the economy was booming. It took the virus to give democrats the excuse to shut down. It is sad because what democrats are saying is this "elect our guy and you will get your rights and liberties back". Johnny J I feel the same way. CA has very restrictive measures in June and July compared to FL and TX but still saw high cases. And you are correct on universal healthcare. People need to stop blaming Trump.

@nike7429 CA was the first state to shut down and never saw a decline. States like NY and NJ did. Why? The latter two saw their spike and reach herd immunity. CA is now at their peak. CA also went back to lock down but the virus still spreads. I question if lock downs even work. Covid is paid for by the government. They do not receive a bill but the cost breakdown.
