  1. darxkai, to answer you question it comes down to this 1. The US is much better in advanced care and something has to subsidize it. In other countries people have a hard time getting heart surgery. Universal healthcare is great for something basic like pregnancy, that's it. 2. Lack of negotiation. Pregnancy should be planned out and not covered by insurance. But thanks to our federal government insurance equals healthcare which leads to higher cost due to lack of negotiation. As for child mortality, we have a higher rate due to us having more pre-mature births. If you remove those incidents we are not terrible in child mortality.

  3. A couple reasons: 1. It does pay for other healthcare services such as ER visits that many do not pay for. In other countries you have longer wait times 2. Lack of negotiation, insurance companies just flip the bill Also, plan to have a baby. Getting pregnant is usually not "roll of the dice".

  4. I agree with the don't get pregnant part. A reason why it cost so much is because of lack of negotiation. Pregnancy is something that insurance should not have to cover as it is pre-planned. But thanks to the federal government our healthcare system is messed up.
