" I don't see how properly screening people before handing them a weapon able to mow down an entire room of folks is a bad thing. " Most people don't. The NRA suggested background checks in the past before the left went extreme on the issue. But even at that, how would a background check stop many of these shootings? "When does the system start worrying about the safety of it's citizens and not just a paragraph on a 200-year-old piece of parchment that has barely kept up with evolving situations and technology in the world?" Do we limit freedom of speech because of the internet? The basis of the amendment remains the same no matter what time it is.

barrett wells, I will give you this and let you decide on the first point. http://www.snopes.com/congress-gun-legal-mental/ On storing guns, I feel that there should be a law in child neglect if you have a kid that gets a hold of the gun and kills someone of themselves. Either teach your kids proper gun handling or lock them up. None of the guns were locked up in my home, or homes of many of my friends. We are all still alive and never shot anyone.

" Anyone that needs a gun doesn't necessarily need it in 3 days." It depends. Say you get a new job or move to a new place that immediately places you in danger. Say you get a stalker that threatens your life. Do you want to wait three days?

12,000 people is 0.03% of the population. More people die in traffic accidents a year. I don't see people jumping to get rid of cars. To me, and many others, 12,000 a year dead is a minor price to pay for the freedom of owning guns, especially since a good portion of them are drug and gang related.

A reason why no one brought this up is because he targeted his victims. This wasn't a random shooting by some craze maniac as you say in Sandy Hook or Aurora movie theater shooting. He knew his victims. Also, guns have nothing to do with this. No gun law would have prevented this as he was a law abiding citizen at the time (as far as I read) unless you completely removed guns. At that point he would have used other methods to attack his victims. Also, 12,000 people in only 0.03% of the population. More people die in traffic accidents a year. I don't see that as a major problem.
