Flightof2Owls , in a free market consumers are the ones that control corporations' activities, thus the CFPB is not needed. All a corporation can do is offer me a job and/or a product. That's it. They can't force me to do anything. I don't have to give them my money. For example, the other day I was at Walmart. I needed 5 items. They only had three so I decided to shop at other places. I bought what I can at another company and then ordered the rest at Amazon. I had a choice in a free market. Walmart did not force me to buy from them. The place I bought my items offline was Raley's, a local retail store. That's the free market at work.

People should look at Ben Shapiro's recent video relate to AOC and healthcare in how she foolishly thought a private insurance company denied someone care when it was actually Medicaid. When the people pushing Medicare for all are that dumb you will not get it. Come up with better arguments and smarter people to support it if you want it to pass.
1
Saying we pay more is not a strong argument. If you receive high quality of care than you expect to pay more.
1
Shade, that is arguably not true. Many factors outside of healthcare influence those numbers.
1
We also offer more CT scans than other nations and have higher cancer survival rates. Those advanced techniques cost a lot of money.
1
Obesity rates, or how blacks have a higher rate of heart disease where the US has a larger percentage of blacks than most developed nations. Murder rates. Many point to overall life expectancy as an indicator of a strong healthcare system where there are other factors that influence it. Obesity plays a strong influence in the health of someone as obesity increases infant mortality and cancer.
1
I agree that malpractice lawsuits are an issue, but over testing has benefits. For example, a girl in the UK was diagnosed with migraines and was denied an MRI for months. When she was scheduled for one she had to wait even more months to which the MRI saw a tumor. She died.
1
jojo, we arguably have great results in the US.
1
Flightof2Owls, people are denied coverage in other nations as well, what's your point? Resources are limited.
1
bigcrazewolf, it isn't cherry picking, this is how you analyze stats. Nothing is ever that clear. Healthcare is very complex. You are over simplifying the issue which makes you look foolish.
1
Tortuga, healthcare rankings are arbitrary. Have you even read the methods in how the CommonWealth Fund created their rankings? I have. Also, what makes them relevant? You do know they are a private special interest group? I feel you just blindly follow that ranking to suit your bias.
1
We don't have a capitalist system in healthcare. We have a heavily regulated system.
1
It isn't capitalism. We do not have a free market system in healthcare. We have a heavily regulated system.
1
jojo, limited regulations is the free market which means capitalism.
1
bigcrazewolf, one can find more cases. Fact is that every healthcare system has shortcomings.
1
@bigcrazewolf , again, what quality do we receive? In the US we give more CT scans than other nations. That raises the price. That is similar to saying my boss pays double in rent than I do, but he also has more rooms and lives in a better apartment complex. Saying we pay more is not an argument as you have to give more details.
1
meg50 , healthcare rankings are completely arbitrary as anyone can do a legit analysis on the stats and come up with any ranking they want. To take something as complex as healthcare and reduce it down to a ranking is very foolish and hinders any progress on this issue. In other countries they have many shortcomings. For example, people die in Canada waiting for "elective" care or in Australia up to 7000 people die a year waiting for "elective" surgery. As for your video, as I said people have died due to shortcomings in the Canadian system. Also, a hospital is not a homeless shelter. When they give you care they let you go. This happens in other nations. At that point it is on the friends/family or the homeless shelter to take them in. Also, many people in that lady's situation have mental problems. Our mental health care in this nation has been a mess since the passage of the Community Mental Health Act of 1963. So when the federal government got more involved in mental health care the situation got worse.

Flightof2Owls , a free market would hold insurance companies more accountable. Right now insurance companies have too much power because it is not a free market system. In a free market system insurance companies will have to actually serve us or go out of business.
1
Flightof2Owls , a free market requires little regulations. In a free market consumers force providers and insurance companies to compete. We don't need the government for that. Us, as consumers, will shop around and find the best deal. If a company does not provide a good offer than they will not get customers. LASIK is hardly regulated and is the free market. Over time the price of LASIK has dropped and the quality has improved. Government regulations are a major reason why healthcare costs are so high.
1
Flightof2Owls , you are not saying anything but talking points. Care to explain what you mean?
1
meg50 , yes, people do die in Canada from elective care. It has been reported many times.
1
meg50 , a free market means competition. Right now we don't have a free market system in healthcare. We have a heavily regulated and subsidized system.
1
meg50 , I rather be bankrupt than dead or suffering from pain.
1
Flightof2Owls , healthcare is a lot like buying socks. A lot of healthcare services can be paid for out of pocket and is something you can shop around for. Some things you can't but that is what insurance of for. However, you should be able to shop around for insurance. The problem we have in our healthcare system is that healthcare insurance has become healthcare. Also, most people cannot choose what plan they get because they get their plan from their employer. There is no free market system in healthcare. That is because of many regulations and programs like the payroll tax. If we allow people to shop for their healthcare insurance and allow healthcare insurance to be insurance than prices will drop. Also, I never said no regulation, I said limited regulations.
1
@bigcrazewolf , you make an emotional argument, which is fine to a degree. But reality is that resources are limited and emotions don't magically create more doctors or more resources in healthcare. Also, what is the "moral" thing to do? I suggest you read the book "Being Mortal" where the author there discusses the challenges in healthcare including the moral thing.
1
meg50 , I compromised on a lot of things. For example, I used to be against any form of government run healthcare. Now I support a state/local ran public option as I see the desire to have some sort of government ran system to help out the extreme poor. But it should be ran locally, it should be there only if the local society wants it, and it should be very limited. For example, I used a publicly funded healthcare system to get an STD check up. I could only use it Tuesday or Thursday and in doing so I had to wait for 4 hours to get blood drawn and pee in a cup. Later I used my insurance to get an STD checkup and in 30 minutes I checked in, got blood drawn and pee in a cup, and was back at home getting ready for work. The public option was "free" but the service was bad and limited. But it gives poor people an option. Also, you saying "common sense" is not an argument. There is a debate to be made on these issues making them far from "common sense".
1
bigcrazewolf, you are making a pure emotional argument at this point which really makes your argument weak. There is an emotional argument to be made, but you can't ignore reality. The reality is that resources are scarce. Resources are limited where ambition is limitless. It would be great to cover everyone with the highest quality of care. It would also be great to teleport to reduce travel time. It would also be great to colonize the moon. Right now none of that is possible, and no amount of emotion will achieve any of those goals anytime soon.
1
VeteranVandal, learn what wealth is and when you do than you realize wealth inequality is arguably not a major problem, if at all.
1
meg50 , care to give me a source to your claim? Life comes with difficult choices. I guess we can let the government make it for us like they do in Canada.
1
@StormCrownSr , what studies? Also, polls are unreliable. They are vague questions on complex issues being asked to uninformed people.
1
Josh, how many nations have 100+ million people and universal healthcare with a strong economy?
1
Medicare for all is not cheaper.
1
I read those reports, they are leaving out a lot of variables and are making many assumptions such as increasing demand will not increase prices. Also, what federal government program ends up costing less than expected? Look at the Community Mental Health Act of 1963 and how that was not funded well due to differing costs.
1
I told you, they assumed that increase in demand won't increase prices which is an economic fallacy. We saw the federal student loan program raise tuition prices due to increase in demand. Also, Medicare has a 40% less payout, they are assuming doctors will be willing to accept that.
1
A more free market system with a state/local run public option would be better. Get the federal government out of healthcare.
1
@joshuajohn8870 , Japan has a high suicide rate because the literally work themselves to death.
1
@joshuajohn8870 , a larger population means more diversity and it also makes it harder to micromanage government programs. The problem is that many people who point to other nations completely ignore the human element of the issues. They point to stats or other nations who do something but ignore the fact that those nations have different cultures, life styles, history, etc. And the larger the population the greater the human element factor plays. I believe there is an old saying that three people can agree on toppings of a pizza if you kill two of them. The idea behind that is that people hardly agree. The larger the population the more challenges you face in creating there government programs. The founding fathers saw this in the creating this nation which is why they created state rights.
1
@playboicartiismydad4842 , the student loan program increased demand for colleges thus they raised tuition.
1
@playboicartiismydad4842 , I saw that Vox video. Not once did they mention quality.
1
@playboicartiismydad4842 , most government run programs are ran at the state and local level. For example K-12 education is completely ran at the state and local level.
1
@playboicartiismydad4842 , there will be an increase in demand for healthcare. You just don't magically create healthcare, someone has to provide it. Also, are you supporting enslaving doctors?
1
They will support it until they see the price tag, tax increase and how poor medicare for all is in quality. That is why these polls are unreliable.
