There are some, anytime we allow something to happen or ban something in society there are pros and cons. It isn't about if there are pros or cons in this situation but if it violates the constitution or not. This story does nothing to sway me either way, a state that recognizes marriage must recognize gay marriage, not doing so violates the 14th amendment. It doesn't matter how I or anyone else feels emotionally about gay marriage.

This video doesn't sway me anything. We shouldn't be basing law on emotions but instead on how it affects society and the constitution. If a state recognizes marriage they must recognize gay marriage based on the 14th amendment. Kyle's talking about rights is a little off. Why should married people get certain tax incentives or other special privileges based on law? Legalizing gay marriage isn't about giving them rights, it is about following the 14th amendment. Those tax breaks or wills and so on are not rights. Also the federal government can't do anything about gay marriage because it would violate the 10th amendment. Take emotions out of the argument and more progress will be done.

***** That is an argument. NAMBLA can also open their voices up if gay marriage were made legal. Now the constitution doesn't say anything about age discrimination thus a law outlawing such actions would not be violating the constitution. But there will be uproar about it. You also have to consider what is an adult? We just passed a law allowing children until they are 26 to stay on their parents' healthcare insurance. One can say someone isn't an adult until they are 26 but yet we force males (and males only which is unconstitutional in itself) to sign up for selective service when they are 18. Overall this isn't a black and which issues, this is complicated and connected in so many ways. This is why we have a constitution and should follow it, it was to limit debates and discrimination by law.

sharper68 We are all connected in some way. To say that one person's actions doesn't affect you is wrong. To say a law won't affect another is wrong. You talk about two adults and I will bring up again what is an adult? We can sign up for the army at 18 (and men are forced to sign up for selective service at 18) but can't drink until 21 and now children can stay on their parent's insurance until they are 26. The age for being an adult is really blurry. Kids can work at a job at the age of 14. The pedophile/bestiality argument does hold some weight. What about polygamy? That becomes an issues as well. My overall point is that if we allow gay marriage to happen things will change. Yes my examples are extreme but to say there will be nothing bad coming from gay marriage would be wrong. We have seen problems with just simply having marriage exist in the first place. And I said it before, it doesn't matter what you or I feel about gay marriage. If a state recognizes marriage they must recognize gay marriage based on the 14th amendment.

ValerieRaya You can't take religion out of it. People have the constitution right to practice their religion.

Jay L I agree that we shouldn't force religion on people or the government can't establish religion by law. You have two facets of marriage, the religion part and the legal part. The legal part is what the government recognizes and if the government recognizes marriage than it has to recognize all marriage and can't discriminate based on sex or race or religion. If the government didn't recognize marriage people can still get married from their religion, but the government can't force a religion to perform a marriage.

Ylze Tyr I agree for the most part. A marriage can be performed in a church or a court house just the same. In the court house there is no religion tied into it but it is stilled recognized the same according to the law.
