Obama was in China on Veterans day 2014, way to support the troops Obama. Oh, I forgot, democrats just want to give other people's money away instead of actually helping people.

PIlotrcm Maybe if democrats didn't want to waste money on welfare programs or wanting to give out "free" healthcare than we would have more money to give to the troops. You can blame republicans all you want but democrats have been wasting a lot of money to hinder paying for our troops.

João Marques The US doesn't have plenty of resources, we are trillions of dollars in debt. I will avoid the war debate and simply say that democrats supported the Iraq war as well.

Rose Magdalene By many do you mean most? Because if you do than I will argue that many on welfare are not vets and military families. You also have to consider those who join the military get paid well all around. They are also given the opportunity to be trained and attend college. They have a great chance to do well so if they blow it one really can't feel sorry for them. I actually support paying them more, and giving them a nice stipend if, for whatever reason, they can't finish out their time in the army (beyond their control). We would be able to do that if we didn't have a particular party who support giving money away in welfare programs.

Members of the military get paid well when they join to begin with. While I feel they should be compensated for that there comes a point where how constitutional this is. One, people like Kyle like to say that republicans are making cuts, the problem is that democrats just like to spend money on welfare programs or unemployment or healthcare and so on to people who do nothing. Maybe if we didn't spend so much money on them we can have money for our troops. Another issue is that the US wasn't supposed to have a standing army. Constantly paying for our troops after they leave is a part of doing just that. They should be compensated for their work while doing it, and they are very well. They are trained well and have a chance to do better things and even receive a college education. After they leave the military it is like anyone else, you should be responsible for living your life. Get support from friends and family and get another job. If you spend your entire life in the military than I can, to a point, understand some sort of retirement for them. And even though I question the constitutionality of it I can support some aid for former troops who only spent a few years in the military. There comes a point that people need to realize that they are compensated well and they do need to take responsibility for their own actions. If you were in the military and are homeless than you did something wrong.
