  1. Because universal healthcare systems struggle with advanced care. Bottom line is this, in a system either the very poor will suffer or the very sick. In a universal healthcare system the very poor do have access to some level of care and no bankruptcy, but the very sick suffer and you see that in Canada where people die waiting for "elective" heart surgery. In the US the very poor do suffer with bankruptcies and lack of access, but the very sick do well as the US is superior in survival rates of advanced illnesses and offer more advance testing and care. So it is a pick your poison situation.
