They are taking tax payers' dollars. What is wrong with placing limits on them? You know who else is paid off of tax payers' dollars? Politicians. I bet everyone agrees we should place limitations on them. I am a supporter that we should force these people to work. Just giving away money hurts the economy.

+Rebecca Hybarger You don't need a car to have a job. You can walk or use public transportation. This is a problem we have in this country how people on food stamps own smart phones or cars or other luxury items. We do need to change the system in some way.

+Rebecca Hybarger Actually I have had the struggle. I was in my worse situation financially a couple of years ago when I did not have a permanent job and my girlfriend at the time just got laid off. I worked hard though to find a job and get better. It requires work.

+Rebecca Hybarger Public assistance should be shamed. We have too many people that just stay on it without care. Banning them of cars may be harsh but something has to be done. I always felt that welfare should be ran locally and to earn it you have to do work in the community. Seeing vandalism and litter around my neighborhood is not a pretty site. How about those on welfare take care of that? Chances are it is those who are poor that do it anyway. But sitting there and feeling sorry for those in poverty is not a solution. We need to push them to get off assistance and be a productive member of society.

+Rebecca Hybarger Shame solves a lot. People get into situations because of their own personal choices. Even as simple as having a backup plan can avoid getting on welfare.

+Rebecca Hybarger Yes, shit happens. That is why I said people should have a backup plan. Even with that I don't mind a welfare program if people work for the money. But just giving people money just because they exist is a waste of resource. We have to set standards on these things. If you don't set standards then these programs that can benefit people fall apart. That is why when the War on Poverty was created the poverty rate has stagnated. I am not totally against these programs, I am against imposing them because people feel sorry for others. That is not the mentality to have. The mentality to have is to try to improve society, not get all emotional. I am being realistic here, you are being emotional. As emotion rises logic and reasoning falls.

+Rebecca Hybarger When you are emotional you let your feelings take control instead of stepping back and accessing the situation. As of now we don't have many standards. Before the War on Poverty the poverty rate was dropping, since then it is stagnate. These welfare programs are not working. We have poor people and income inequality in this country because we have people that refuse to work. Something has to be done. Maybe taking away their car is the solution, maybe not. But what we have now isn't working.

+Rebecca Hybarger "The reason it has stagnated is because wages have stagnated" This is where you are not correct. Wages have gone up if you consider benefits offered now instead to counter the payroll tax that was expanded in the 60s. Healthcare benefits are a 100% tax free way to pay an employee thus employers do it. Also as technology improves, productivity increases making goods and services better and cheaper. People are using a less percent of their income on food. When left alone the economy will get better. Areas of the economy that have increased in price are housing and healthcare which also happens to be areas greatly influenced by the federal government. Productivity is up due to technology. Those that invested in technology or created it have seen an increase in wages, it is called Skilled Bias Technological Change. And as I mentioned, goods and services have gotten better and cheaper. You automatically blaming corporate greed shows your emotions. What about individual greed? Why should you have a car and be on food stamps? Why should you have a cell phone and be on welfare? Why are you entitled to food stamps? I see that as greed.
