  1. I agree with a lot of what you say but no on this one. I do not own land because of my decision to be a graduate student and hold off buying land to instead invest in my education. I still pay taxes which to me allows me to vote.

  2. Based on your thought process those with property can vote to increase sales taxes to prevent other people from buying property. At that point you create a situation were elitist rule. Or they can vote to pass laws where property owners pay less in taxes as their property is a write off of some kind. So they get free goodies as well.

  6. The issue is still big government vs limited government. On social issues people agree more and more. However, you have many on the right that want limited government and many on the left that want big government. On the left you have people supporting shutting down a cake shop when they did not want to bake a cake for a gay wedding. On the right people disagreed with the shop's practices but felt that the gay couple could have went elsewhere and not use government force to punish people. Anymore the left has this idea that if you disagree with them you should be punished. That is what divides us.

Also, most people do not have an issue with abortion, they just do not want to have the government fund it. The far left position is having the government fund it. The right position is to make it illegal. Most do not care if it is legal, they do not want to have tax dollars fund it. Uh, what are you talking about banning the phrase "climate change"? If the phrase is abused then it should be banned on the basis that government should have clear meanings on words. Both sides should agree to that. That is a limitation on government.   13. Ant Man is correct. As Ann Coulter said, we vote in republicans to remove the federal Department of Education and instead we get No Child Left Behind. We wanted repeal and replace Obamacare but do not get that.

Those polls you keep citing are very vague and unreliable. If universal healthcare is so popular many states would have it by now.

No different than someone donating their time rallying for a politician, going door to door, or having an entire youtube channel dedicated to them. Some people work very hard and all they can do is donate money, not just to politicians but to other causes as well. Money is one of many ways to support a candidate. I have no problem with money in politics. I have a problem of the federal government having so much power that it can be bought like it is. If we limit the powers of the federal government we would not be having this problem. I always find it fascinating how the left wants the government to control their healthcare, education and more of their tax dollars, but then later say it is corrupt. Here is Kyle complaining about corruption but I bet within a week he will release another video pushing for government run healthcare. And for those who say "elect the right people", wasn't that supposed to be Obama? The problem is not big money but big government.

A lot of people I know hate politicians to begin with and see it as just part of the game. " Small dollar donations from the PEOPLE and not the corporations is totally fine and even necessary. " What's the difference? If you get a job at a small business or a large one a job is a job. If you buy a product at a large business or a small one what is the difference? People who run corporations have a voice as well. You are picking and choosing who can and cannot donate at that point. Why stop at corporations? What about rich celebrities? What about organizations like Planned Parenthood or the NRA? Where is the stopping point? To me I am all or nothing when it comes to the law. There are a few exceptions, but in law it is all equal.   19. Marshall, quid pro quo is direct. If I donated millions to a candidate there is no guarantee they would become elected to begin with. After that there is no guarantee they would do what I want. Look at how many donated to Bernie and after it became public the DNC was against him he did not say a word.

  20. Many left wing policies come from money in politics as well. For example, you have politicians get richer but if you call them out they take away your healthcare. Vote them in and they give you healthcare but get richer themselves.

  21. Steven, we have medicare and medicaid right now. You just had Obamacare passed which, to me, is a step towards universal healthcare. These programs cannot be established all at once, they take time. Politicians want to come in through the back door to screw you. They have to gain support of independents as well.

What needs to be done is to limit the federal government's power. You allow government to create more laws limiting campaign finances you just give them more power. The answer is not more laws, it is less.

  27. It isn't as donating money is no different than donating time or a youtube channel. It is speech. The problem is the power government has. If government has limited powers than it can be bought. To solve corruption you have to limit the powers of the federal government and go to stronger state and local government. When people donated to Bernie they saw him as having the power to do something they agreed with so they were buying him out. His competitor just had richer donors. If the federal government was limited in power this situation would not happen.

What is "necessary" to you is different compared to a rich donor. That is why you limit the powers they have at the federal level. The federal government does x, y and z and leave the rest to the states. At the state level it is easier for the people to control, and even more so at the local level. You can attend town hall meetings, personally meet your politicians and government workers. You have a louder voice and if you do not like what is going on you leave to another state and remain a US citizen. There is a desire to have government, we need to control it. Donations with assets for jobs for friends and relatives. Someone working in a regulatory department can be promised a job in 5 years for a company. A politician can be given a home or it can be given to their spouse or child.

  31. Supernautiloid, to give a great example look at our current federal tax code. There are arguments to be made for loopholes, a progressive tax, etc. But they should be dealt with locally. In this current tax law that as passed there were complaints by grad students in how they were going to tax tuition waivers. That is a loophole for them. However, those complaining about that supported ending loopholes for the corporations. Well, have to have it both ways in my opinion. You gave the federal government that power to create those loopholes thus they exist for both corporations and grad students. My solution is simple. The federal tax code should either be 1. A tax on the states like we had pre 1913 or 2. A federal flat tax with a consumption tax. All the federal government can change are the rates. You may complain about how we need a progressive tax but when you set that up you set up the grounds for loopholes that favor certain people. You understand the issue?

You can throw as much money as you want at it and you won't gain anything. If you just remove money the rich will still find a way to pay off politicians.

  33. Supernautiloid, we have a democracy at the local level. However, the problem with a straight democracy is that it is 51% telling 49% what to do. What if the majority voted to make abortion illegal? There are many ways.
