André Sax Luxembourg is ranked first in debt per capita

André Sax It is because of social programs. They simply don't work. Plus, what great invention or idea has come from Luxembourg? Profit it what brings hard work, motivation and progress. You talked about the long wait times is because of lack of doctors. That could be a reason, where is the motivation to be a doctor if you are not going to get paid well? And, where is the motivation to work harder if you are not going to get paid well? One socialized system we have in the states is education. It is hard to fire teachers, the US education system is not great. Yes everyone has access to it but at what cost?

sharper68 And how are they properly funded? Some countries that have strong social programs as in Norway or the Netherlands have a higher debt per capita than the US. They are artificially funded with money that country doesn't have. The US has strong social programs, they are too generous. If you attack the rich and tax them then they will find a way to pass on the cost to the consumer either through and increase in prices or cutting jobs. The successful worked for what they got, if you attack them they will find a way to keep what they earned. You can't place a cap on success. The US has the best doctors because it has the best healthcare system in the world. Only people who support unions are those that simply don't want to work. They want to be protected. Unions kill jobs in the long run. Look at Detroit, unions killed that city. A slave is forced to work. You don't have to work for a particular job. If that particular job is the only job you can get than you should work at developing a skill to make yourself more employable.

sharper68 The ranking of the US being 37th is flawed. The US is ranked number one in responsive care because there are not wait times compared to other countries. The WHO ranking system put an emphasis on access to care. Countries that have socialized care do give access to care to all of it's citizen but the care is inadequate compared to what we have in the US. Why are doctors leaving for Canada? It could be because of the guaranteed jobs. That is what socialism does, it creates jobs but not wealth which is why debt increases. Maybe those doctors couldn't cut it in the private sector. Much like how someone goes to teaching in the US, they wanted a part time job as a government employee but also get paid full time. The term "wage slavery" is made up to purely stir emotion. It is hard to take you seriously when you say something like that. Slaves were forced to work. If a company is not paying you enough than quit. Unions are just another way for politicians to win elections. They are ineffective and is a reason why Detroit is a mess.

Q deMayo Private unions have some advantages. Being able to negotiate with the strength in numbers does have it's advantages. The problems with unions is that one, it kills jobs for the low skilled. I read an article recently that said that fast food workers wanted to unionize and raise wages. That means those with low skills, such as high school age individuals or recent high school graduates with no work experience, won't be able to get a job there. Unions can be like a gang and push people away that simply are not skilled enough to work at a place. Unions also place a cap on success. Nobody can get paid more even though they are way more productive. If that productive person wants to leave the union they are criticized and bullied. I will never join a union because I know I am worth more than any deal a union can get me. When someone is stuck on a union where is the incentive to work harder? Your pay is maxed out. Unions prevent work from being done. To get something done at a job, for example fixing a machine, only workers of a certain union can do it and no one else. Unions also become very political and politics create a huge barrier to a goal. That is what happen in Detroit. Unions became such an issue there that businesses just didn't want to deal with it anymore. Politicians used unions to buy votes, create laws in the unions' advantage and at a disadvantage of the businesses. It becomes a mess that businesses simply don't want to deal with. When unions become too powerful jobs are loss. As I just said look at Detroit for example. There should never be public unions. Public workers are funded by tax dollars and thus shouldn't be unionized.

It doesn't work.

michael primanzon What you said is true. The problem is that the very people who want to be like those countries won't believe what you just said or don't care. They don't mind having a government that tells them what to do. They don't mind the lack of success. They simply care about themselves and doing nothing. They don't understand that capital has to come from somewhere. As you said those European countries are being supported by the US. I also said that in those countries they are more debt per capita so their high standard of living is purely artificial.
