No Kyle, it is that there are more civil ways in approaching this issue. Garner should have listened to the cops and than solve the situation later with someone who is higher up. You don't cause a scene and resist arrest. People are making it sound like the cops beat this guy and then killed him execution style. And what Kyle said at around 3:20 is a danger of big government. You give the government power than the people involved are not going to hold each other responsible. Funny how he never brings that up in any other situation but instead cries for more laws and regulations by the government.

masbeetleboy Voting in local politicians that change the laws, that is a way. Going out and looking like fools isn't the way to change it. And not listening to the whole issue isn't going to change it. Garner has been arrested multiple times, he is a high risk suspect at that point. He was resisting arrest, all he had to do was put his hands behind his back and get cuffed. He didn't do that. They had to take him down to put the cuffs on him. The cops were doing their job. You can't fault the cops for that. I do care about a corrupt government. This wasn't a case of a corrupt government though.

masbeetleboy Some of the protests haven't been peaceful. Plus, that is all they do, they have no real answer to the problem, and they refuse to look at the entire situation. If you are a repeat offender you are a high risk subject because that means you have no problem breaking the law multiple times and have could break more severe laws. He was breaking the law, again, and refused to be arrested thus he was resisting arrest. All the cops did was doing their job, his death was an unfortunate accident at that point. If this guy would have just listened to the cops he would be alive. Let us do another scenario here. Let us say I am running from the cops in a high speed pursuit. The cops throw some road spikes on the road and I hit them and get in a accident and die, whose fault is that? It is the same situation here.

masbeetleboy The people do have a right to protest, but just going around and ignorantly yelling at the top of your lungs to just try to be louder than the people you disagree with doesn't solve anything. The protesters need to step back and look at the situation. The cops were doing their job, you can't blame the cops for that. What you a do is change the law. For selling cigarettes he can be ticketed. instead of arrested, he can be ticketed and told to leave or he will see a bigger fine and then possibility of arrest. That could have worked. And if he doesn't pay his fine than he can be arrested. Garner was a big guy, cops don't want to get hurt here and they don't want others to get hurt, 5 guys is necessary. You can't let him up just because he is saying he can't breath. If they did than that opens up the situation where if someone else is getting arrested and says that than they let them up they can either run away, or pull out a weapon (say a knife), kill a cop and than run away. You contain him first. In Garner's case he was held down and than cuffed. We are starting to get to a point where the cops can't do anything. They get in trouble if they beat a guy even after a dangerous high speed pursuit (which is understandable in a lot of ways why they would get in trouble), but now they can't use force to arrest someone who is refusing to listen. It is coming down to that cops have to politely ask the criminals to get in the car as if they will do it on their own free will. There are others ways this could have been handled, in the end the law was the law and there are better ways of changing than blaming cops. Also, people need to realize that they simply need to listen to the cops and sort out the situation later.

masbeetleboy They were trying to arrest him, if they were intent on killing him they would have just shot him. It was an unfortunate accident. When you resist arrest cops have to use force to arrest you. All Garner had to do was willing be arrested. If you don't than cops have to use force. The cops didn't break any laws here and was doing their job.
