Kyle is, as usual, showing a high level of intellectual dishonesty here. Kyle says we spend more than the next 9 countries combine in defense. Well, our GDP is comparable to those next 9 countries combine. You what to know what else we spend more on than a lot of those countries combine? Infrastructure, education, healthcare, R&D, etc. So by Kyle's standard we need to cut government spending on education, infrastructure, healthcare and R&D. Why? Because it is out of control as we spend more than the next several countries combine. You have to look at percent of GDP. You need a standard baseline. If not you are being intellectually dishonest.

"No. What makes sense for comparison is what we spend vs our opponents. If we have a military that costs 700 billion a year to fund, we should be able to defeat an opponent that spends 100 billion" So if we spend $200 billion on education we should be able to education our entire population more than a country who spends only $100 billion? That is regardless of population and GDP size?

" So what dose that have to do with the military if we are already spending more than other countries couldn't we use that money for other thing or even better don't take it away from us personally." You have to look at other government spending as well. For example, the US spends around 5.6% of GDP on education spending. Now some of that includes private, but we will stick with this as I am too lazy to crunch the numbers completely. We spend more on education in pure dollars than the UK, Australia, Switzerland, and France combine (just to pick a few random countries for sake of argument). Does that mean we should cut education spending because we spend more then them in pure dollars? Would you support that? That is the point. You can't look at pure dollars, you need a baseline. In percent GDP those countries are at 5.6%, 5.1%, 5.4%, and 5.9%. WE are comparable in that way. People who make the claim that Kyle does are moving the goal posts.

jeane0253, rich people buy bigger homes and sometimes more than one. So it is the same thing. Also, they invest more money into their careers whatever it may be.

Jill Ronan, that is a fair point. That is why I support giving more powers to local governments so local citizens can see if the government is working for them or for their buddies.

Jack Burton, we have more to defend in terms of land mass, people and our economy. When you say ". If we are already spending 8 times more than every other first world country, how could you possibly advocate for more spending" you are not having a valid comparison. Let me ask you, would you support cutting education spending because we do spend more than a lot of countries combine as well? You can't move the goal posts here.
