It isn't Walmart's fault that those workers refuse to obtain a skill and get a higher paying jobs. Walmart can always choose to close down some of their stores, stop being 24 hours, and fire some of their employees. Walmart doesn't have to hire those employees. I actually agree with Kyle in one point, the federal government shouldn't be giving subsidizes for startups. But his mindset on Walmart's profits is off. Less profits means less investment and thus less jobs and progress. Walmart is opening new stores in a lot of areas. You also have to consider that the Walmart worker simply doesn't produce that much capital and thus that is why they are not paid that much. There is no such thing as a "living wage". You are paid based on your market rate. Instead of trying to reward lack of progress we should be pushing people to work harder and create more capital to earn more. One of the reasons we have an income gab that liberals complain about is because we keep subsidizing the poor which basically rewards them for being poor. If you limit that than they will work harder creating more capital and progressing society a lot where everyone is doing better.

DAK4Blizzard The simple fact is that you have to find a way to work harder. If you are struggling to pay bills than you need to ask for friends and family for help or find a way to make more money. If you can't make more money or don't have any friends or family for help or can't cut back anymore on expenses than the simple fact is what are you worth to society? That is the harsh question. It isn't so much of trying to save for an education but more of being a person who have friends and family who are willing to help or being a person who is productive in society.

Dizzylemon You have to work harder. You have to push yourself and take time managing your money. You have to volunteer to help others so others will help you out. Ask friends and family for help. There is nothing wrong with any of that. The harsh reality is that if you are unwilling to work and don't have any friends or family to help you out than what are you worth in society? Also you have to look at why doesn't our society have a mindset where they are not willing to help people out? One of my friends lost her job and I allowed her to move into my apartment. So many people in our society just want to pass the buck to someone else instead of actually doing something themselves.

***** I have done hard labor in my life. I have worked in a restaurant and made at most $8/hr. I worked a job where I made $3/hr. as a paper boy where I walked in snow and rain and cold. I worked graveyard in a warehouse. During my time I have seen people who were flat out lazy and didn't care. While I was finding stuff to do and be productive during slow times others were just sitting and chatting or taking their smoke breaks as if life was so stressful. There is a reason why I moved on and they haven't. You also have to realize that a reason why a lot of small and poorer communities struggle is because of federal government involvement. Take the min. wage for example. Those small communities simply can't afford that high of a wage because they don't produce that much capital. Same with regulations and taxes. It hurts those who are at a disadvantage.

João Marques There are several cheap options for college in the US. And raising the min. wage will just lead to those who are unskilled unemployed. And raising the min. wage doesn't help those in poverty that don't even have a job. There isn't a single good reason to even have a min. wage.

***** I have seen a lot of hard working people in labor. I have seen a lot of lazy people ruin I for everyone though. That is my problem. People feel entitled when they are not. They beg the government or help and the government "gives" it to them which just makes the situation worse. The real honest thing is that people just have to work harder and if they can't than they should be shunned by society, not given a meal ticket off of other people's dime.
