The guy getting a paycut life is now worse
4
Poor comparison. Costco and In N Out have limited locations, limited hours and limited items.
1
@Daniel Brown , the chief in staff is not a billionaire
1
@thepolishlatinofromphilly9709 , what if he has a family with kids? Chances are he does where young entry level workers don't
1
@tonygomez4966 , he may be fine, but that doesn't mean this should be the norm
1
ryne green $150000 is not much in dc if you are trying to raise a family
1
@tonygomez4966 ,which is fine, but AOC fans are pushing for this style of economy.
1
@thepolishlatinofromphilly9709 , it is pushing to bring people down and make everyone equally poor. Just because that one guy for AOC is willing to take a paycut does not mean others should.
1
@willmorrison1022 , I can live off of $80,000 a year, but I am a single guy living in one of the cheaper parts of the country. What about a guy who is married, with kids living in DC? They worked their way up to that position so they deserve to earn more.
1
@thepolishlatinofromphilly9709 , good for him, that was his decision. But that doesn't apply to the norm. Are you willing to take a paycut so others around you can earn more?
1
@willmorrison1022 , if they need more money they should work their way up. They are working entry level jobs. This is why socialist nations struggle, there is no incentive to move up.
1
@vikrantpulipati1451 , I am all for improving the lives of people, I just understand that you don't do that by punishing success. You are not poor because others are rich. I care about helping people beneath me, I do it all the time. I help out a lot. Also, it isn't always about pay raises. How about producing something that makes lives easier? Look at Jeff Bezos. He is very rich, he is that way because he made shopping easier for the nation. That is how he improve the lives of the bottom.
1
@tonygomez4966 , poor argument. You don't understand their financial situation. This argument of "they will still be rich" is poor. I mean, I can apply that to AOC. Why not take half of her salary and give it to a homeless person? She will still be well off.
1
@Reza-hz1ce , I do care about people going bankrupt due to medical bills. I just understand the government does not have a magic wand and can't just create healthcare out of thin air.
1
@brendonhalverson5178 , roads are a part of the Constitution, also, 3/4 of funding for roads is done at the state and local level.
1
@vikrantpulipati1451 , Jeff Bezos pays his workers the market rate where in reality they are paid well considering all you need is a GED at best. Bezos made people's lives easier by providing a company that made shopping easier that competes with other companies. Bezos did not steal from anyone. Also, he earns only $80,000 a year.
1
@vikrantpulipati1451 , you just attack him because you are jealous of his success.
1
@vikrantpulipati1451 , so increase the demand of healthcare? Is that what you are arguing?
1
@tonygomez4966 , I am not saying give it, I am saying forcing AOC to give half of her paycheck to the homeless. That is my point.
1
@paulbangash4317 , define "common decency".
1
@vikrantpulipati1451 , how does he have control over society? Is he forcing people to work for him? Is he forcing people to shop at his place? No. I don't envision myself to be in Jeff Bezos' position. What makes you think that? He made my life easier, so I shop at his company. Also, what money is he keeping? Again, he pays himself $80,000 a year. He doesn't have as much money as you think.
1
@vikrantpulipati1451 , learn the difference between wealth and income if you want to further this discussion.
1
@vikrantpulipati1451 , his stocks are not liquidated. If he were to liquidate his stocks than the value of them would drop a lot making them almost worthless. Do some minimum research.
1
@vikrantpulipati1451 , his wealth is in the form of stocks which is not liquidated. If he were to liquidated his stock the market will see that as a huge red flag and the value of his company will drop a lot lowering his wealth. He can't just liquidate his stocks like that.
1
@kyle9401 , Amazon's shares are valued as high as they are because of the success of Amazon and because Bezos is the largest shareholder of the company. Him being the largest shareholder shows confidence in the company so investors will invest because if the company falls apart Bezos goes with it. If Bezos starts selling off his shares in massive amounts it is a red flag for investors that he knows something that must be bad in Amazon and thus investors will no longer invest in Amazon dropping the value of the shares and thus the wealth Bezos has. Please learn how the market works.
1
Three problems here 1. This is cutting someone's pay to pay others more. This is pushing for everyone to be equally poor 2. How much of her salary is she willing to cut? 3. These interns are typically young with no kids or home payments. The other workers are older with kids and homes. Their financial needs differ
1
@playboicartiismydad4842 1. In dc it is poor. 2. It is easy to give away other people's money 3. I agree
1
@harkra 1. It is pushing for that. 2. She can donate it. 3. Uh, punishing success creates no incentive to improve. Why should people work harder to better themselves when they are not going to benefit in some way?
1
@harkra , also, the financial situation of the young is different than the old. Older people generally have families and homes to pay for where younger workers don't. Lowering pay like she wants will hinder people from wanting to move up in life.
1
@FrankCastle-tq9bz , no. In fact, for most executives, if you cut their pay down to zero the workers will not earn a significant amount more. For example, if you took the top 6 executives of Walmart and spread all of their money to the 525,000 lowest paid workers of Walmart, those workers will earn an extra $147 a year, that's it. The point is that as you move up in a career it is typically because you put in the work to do so, thus that corresponds with age.
1
Most entry level workers are young and short term. This will only lead to more problems
1
@yoked1234 , these are entry level jobs. High turnover can be beneficial. If someone is really good they can promote them. If not that worker will move on their own preventing any civil discourse from firing them. It also brings in fresh, new minds.
1
@456MrPeople , yes. You are not proven.
1
@fiyahquacker2835 , it will. Did you not read my comment?
1
@mattyrose3931 , in some cases higher turnover is good. These are entry level positions so it increases your pool to promote and for those you don't want to promote you can just let leave without the challenging of firing them that hurts workplace moral. Also, this allows more entry level positions to come in that you can persuade politically. These issues are not "common sense" as there is a debate to begin with. I oppose AOC doing this because she wants to force people to do this. I have no problem taking a paycut on their own, AOC just wants to force others to do it. But you saying this is "common sense" shows you have no argument yourself.
1
@mattyrose3931 , I have never seen them talk about high turnover. As for republicans paying staffers higher, I am fine with that. They are not the ones pushing to use government force to follow suit. AOC is. AOC wants to use government force to punish success. AOC also complained about having to find an apartment when she could have slept in her DC office like many republicans do.
1
@MrGrass97 , uh, them sleeping in their office is saving them money. It isn't costing the tax payers dollars. In fact, it is saving them money because instead of paying rent they are sleeping in their office.
1
@Tijggie82 , when you don't earn it you are not successful.
1
@Tijggie82 , fine. The problem is that AOC wants everyone to do this. She wants to bring people down.
1
@Tijggie82 , uh, who claims they should not live? You are paid based on what you produce in society. It is up to you to find a way to live.
1
@MrGrass97 , paying rent for a place you hardly live in is increasing demand for rent and lowering the supply in rentals making rent more expensive for others. The cost in utilities is a drop in the bucket overall. Compare how much your utilities cost a month. That building they sleep in is going to have to be heated/cooled to begin with, and lights have to be on for security reasons. You are really grasping for straws here bud.
1
@mattyrose3931 , there shouldn't be a federal min. wage. It is irrelevant in this day and age.
1
Which means less money for his family and kids where young, single entry level workers get more money than they are worth
1
@theprussianmink , that person earned that money. Raising the min. wage to $15/hr is not them earning but using government force to get money, bit difference.
1
@thesauceman8457 , in DC $80,000 a year is not much to raise a family on.
1
@FrankCastle-tq9bz , people who typically earn a higher wage worked their way up to deserve it and do things they want to do, one is raise a family. Managers are worth less? I am done here. Without the managers the company will fall apart.
1
@roachofdoom1234 ,have you seen the cost of living in DC?
