"You seem to be confused as to my point. I'm not Nostradamus, and can't say what legislation could have prevented the Las Vegas massacre (beyond an assault weapon ban), but there are many other measures that would at least have been preventative steps, or could potentially stop future shootings. "
Such as what? Pick any shooting and start naming laws. It does not have to be this one? What about Sandy Hook? Oh, wait, that guy stole his gun he used.
We have laws on the books, and NV just expanded their background checks. If you look at the trend gun murders have been dropping for over 20 years, even after the removal of the "assault weapons" ban. I am not downplaying these tragedies. But that is what they are, tradegies, not the norm. How many people died in the Joplin tornado years ago? It would have been great if the government would have done something? But they can't. I don't mean to sound cold, but emotions won't work on me. We have laws on the books already.
"I'm not explicitly saying the NRA is against saving lives, just that the second amendment rights of Americans matter more than their lives."
In many cases rights are more important than lives. We have a military that will risk their lives to protect our rights.
