+Kolzi Saying democratic socialist isn't socialism is like saying that it isn't rape if the girl was drunk. In the end it is socialism, just with a smoke screen to make it look like it isn't bad.

+TheSnoopy1750 Quality of both healthcare and education will drop as well. So while it is cheaper you get what you pay for.

+Kang5030 Bernie said he was going to raise taxes on everyone.

+Cavecat Other countries with socialized healthcare and higher education are facing problems as well.

Rand has a great point here. So when the rich decide to work less, wait time at the doctors office becomes long, money starts to run out, productivity drops, then what? Talking about safety nets education isn't a basic necessity. One can become educated without the government. So by Kyle's standards we should not fund that. On housing, what type of housing? This is the problem with the left. All rhetoric and no specifics. There are people living in groups of 5 in 2 bedroom homes. There are people sleeping on floors and couches. If you want safety nets and minimal standards of living I can do that and I bet my way is a lot lower than yours which will save money.

+TheSnoopy1750 CA has one of the highest GINI coefficients in the US. That is an area where the middle class is dying. As an undergrad in the midwest I had my own bedroom and so did my roommate in college. I talked to a guy who went to Cal Berkeley and he lived in a 2 bedroom apartment with 4 other guys. That is common. Basically in CA you have the really rich and the poor.

+TheSnoopy1750 Those who are rich in CA are really rich. I would live in CA if I were rich making $200,000/yr or more. I will own a nice house on the hills and avoid all the poor people. I don't earn that much though. With my career I most likely won't. So I won't live there. There are jobs at universities that have a hard time getting filled due to them only being able to pay $60,000/yr. That much money is well off in a lot of areas in the US. Not in CA. CA is a terrible place for the middle class.
