Saying wages are lower is deceptive. You have to be careful with statistics. Statistics are like a bikini, they reveal a lot but never the full thing. One, what is the cost of living there? Next, unions have been known to limit job opportunities for other workers. In right to work states you have more job opportunities for all workers, including those with less skills (one reason is because of a lower min. wage) thus those workers bring that stat down. So in other words, states with strong unions have less job opportunities for low skilled workers. Right to work states don't necessarily have lower wages, their wages overall seem lower because the average gets brought down by lowered skilled workers actually having a job. There is a factory that is unionized a few miles away from my hometown. They don't hire any temps because the unions won't allow them. Places without unions do hire temps. So when you hire a group of workers at a lower wage will bring the average wage down.

GodEnderX With temp workers you at least have a chance to get in. Unionized jobs, at least where my dad works, don't allow temps at all. The warehouse I worked at eventually hired a lot of their temps to full time. At times it took them a few times being a temp, but they did it. Temp work as great for me because I worked there during break for a couple months and then quit.

GodEnderX With unions it is harder to be hired by a company. They look for experience. My dad was hired because they recruited him. Me, personally, I will never join a union. I enjoy my freedoms.

GodEnderX What kind of experience? Being a temp requires no experience, but that is your way in. Unions preventing temps from being hired hinders those from gaining experience.

Non-union jobs are typically lowered skilled.

Soup5, unions have been known to prevent younger, lowered skilled workers from getting a job. The company my dad works for is unionized and they don't allow any temp workers because of it. One reasoning is the fear a temp would work better and take their job. That is a huge drawback as temps can use those jobs to obtain extra income.
