  4. +Danny Bhattarai The fact is that when money dries up and people refuse to work then the government has to take over which is communism. You can look simply at the $15/hr min. wage. After that gets passed and teenage unemployment skyrockets then Bernie will have to spend more money to create teenage jobs that he already said he was going to do. Or when we lack doctors and professors for "free college" or "free healthcare" he is going to force people to work.

  5. +Tasheem Hargrove The business will close up. Around 2% of min. wage workers work full time. And it is not the fault of other states that in CA and NJ their cost of living is so high. If you need more money then find a way to earn more or manage your money better.

  7. +Tasheem Hargrove Min. wage workers don't even reach 35 hours (the BLS standard for full time) because they are part time, temporary workers just entering the work force. People at times earn a lower wage to get only part time and flexible hours, it is a trade off. But increasing the min. wage is not going to increase the amount of hours they get. While you are forcing how much is being paid by hour, you are not forcing how much is being paid by week. So saying that only 2% of min. wage workers work full time clearly shows that businesses are not offering more hours to those workers, so raising their wage won't change that. Get roommates, find a cheaper place to live, cut other expenses. You can manage your money. It requires work and sacrifices. Actually CA and NJ have high taxes leading to higher cost of living. There is a correlation their. Those southern states have lower cost of living due to lower taxes. You may complain about them receiving federal funding but you do know that in southern states you have more retirees that receive social security. You can't blame the southern states for being warm.

After jobs are killed off due to his high taxes and high min. wage we will have to depend off of government jobs. Productivity will drop. About the only thing he won't do is kill off his own people. But all the qualities of a communist country will be matched.

  9. +Critical Thinking I understand Bernie's policies and realized that his supporters are incredibly ignorant. You can give me any one of Bernie's economic policies and I can break them down how they simply won't work. When it doesn't work then the government has to take over more and more, or we remove his policies, take your pick. But in the end Bernie's policies simply won't work. Under FDR we had a depression. And FDR's policies are the reason why we are having problems now. All the problems Bernie talks about are linked to the a large federal government created by FDR. Bernie wants to compound our problems.

We have seen other recessions in the past similar to the one of 1929, like the one in 1920 for example, but you never hear about that one. The reason why is because the federal government did little and recovery was quick. FDR tried to "fix" the economy, which was the first time the federal government tried that. It was of no surprise that a depression came. As far as blaming FDR for our problems now, you have to consider that in the long run socialism does not work. We are now $18 trillion in debt. Bernie's plan is expected to at $18 trillion more in 10 years. The old saying is that socialism works until you run out of other people's money, we are out. Also what FDR did was give more power to the federal government. The same Bernie supporters that praise FDR and Bernie are the same people the complain about money in politics. Money in politics is simply a symptom of a disease. That disease is too much federal government. If the federal government had limited power then it can't be bought. This is why the founding fathers wanted a limited federal government, they wanted to avoid it becoming too powerful. With the federal government having all that power it is open to corruption. Also we have become so dependent on the government that any talk of Social Security reform or Medicare/Medicaid reform is met with fear mongering on the left. And there is the mentality that we need the federal government to do X, Y and Z. But when it does A, B and C, there are complaints. Well, they wanted the federal government to have that power, so that is what they get. I am open to discussion, the issue that people need to realize is that too much government is just as bad as no government. FDR created too much government, and Bernie wants to expand it. I am here to open up discussion.

  12. +alex habbart No, the recession started in 1929. In the past every other recession we recovered from in around 5 years or less. Enter FDR and the recovery was hindered making the recession into a depression. So FDR compounded out problems turning a recession into a depression. So clearly you don't know history. What you described is the ideal form of communism, which never happened. I am talking about communism in development. Bernie is in no way a "state capitalist" (which is a oxymoron in itself). Bernie is basically a communist in development which has never worked.

  13. +alex habbart We grew 30 years after the war because we stripped away some of the new deal policies, such as limiting how much food farmers produced. Also the rest of the world was rebuilding thus we were the big dogs on campus, we grew because of that. Now the new deal policies we kept in place are coming back and hurting us now. So you clearly don't know history or economics. "The state takes the surplus value made by producers and decides what to do with it just as a capitalist does." Except the state will instead choose winners and losers. And Bernie does advocate common ownership of a lot. Please read a book.

We had a similar recession in 1921, you just don't hear about it because with no federal government action it was over quickly. But enter FDR, enter the federal government and then you have a recession.

I find it funny how every other recession took around 5 years or less to recover from except two, the one we are in now and the one under FDR. It is also to no surprise that they are also were times where the federal government tried to "fix" the economy with massive federal government involvement and action. FDR caused the depression. Sorry facts don't align with your line of thinking. I bet you think that Matt Millen was a good GM for the Detroit Lions as well.

  21. That basically sums it up. People see him as an old nut. If he makes it to the general election he will be lucky to get 40% of the vote. His handful of talking points won't carry him through the general debates. People will will challenge him and he will fall apart like always. For example, raising the min. wage. People will simply ask how will businesses pay for a $15/hr min. wage. He was asked that before and he ran quickly to Walmart. He refused to answer the question because in the end he is an old nut, a pure economic illiterate.

Remove the fact that those countries have a smaller population than the US and a different society then you will see that they have a higher cost of living and low GDP per capita. They are also less productive. You pointing towards "trickle down economics" shows your economic illiteracy yourself. That is a political term designed to smear an opponent, it is not an economic term.

  25. +Last Guy Minn We haven't had "supply side economics" though. We have a lot of socialism in our society and a large progressive tax. Also issues such as stagnate wages are mostly a myth (not completely, but not as bad as someone like Bernie make it out to be). And income inequality is as bad as it is due to the socialist programs we have with the progressive taxes.
