  8. More cars equal more traffic accidents. Kyle's point of "more guns equal more gun violence" is pretty asinine at that point. It also does not make Rush's point irrelevant. The idea of allowing individuals to be armed is that it removes the "gun free zone" status and thus a shooter will be less likely to attack the place. Knowing that a gun could be there is a deterrent to stop these shootings. There is a reason why gun free zones are targeted. Also, it isn't about arming everyone. You can have stricter requirements for schools. In my campus they wanted to allow only people with CCWs. To have that you need a background check and have to be 21 which removes most of the student population.

  14. It isn't that easy. There i s a lack of funds and bodies. There are over 80 schools in my district, we would not be able to cover all of them. This is why the idea of arming teachers get suggested.

  17. We have plenty of gun laws on the books, what more do you want? What happened in this school was an example of another gun free zone being shot. The main issue, though, is that when a shooting like this happens leftists push for more laws when none of them would stop these shootings. What law would have stopped this shooting? You can't say, so at that point you are pushing for a gun ban.

  19. No one wants to arm the kids, only the teachers. Even in my university the law was written so only people with CCWs can carry a gun on campus. You have to be 21+ to have one which eliminated most of the student body.

  22. The magazine limit does not work. The VA Tech shooter has a 10 round and a 15 round magazine. 100 round drums have a tendency to jam which is why it is never used in the military so in all reality the 100 round drum is less efficient than a 10 round magazine. Even at that magazines are designed for quick reloading.

  23. The problem with armed guards at schools is money and limited bodies. We have over 80 schools in my district, there is no way we can cover that many. That is why there is an argument in allowing teachers to possess guns.

  24. Alec Ryan, I would support more security and police officers at schools as it will make them safer. In fact, a police officer stopped a kid at one of our high school who had knives and was going to stab people. But in all reality we lack funds and bodies. We do not have enough people to actually supply more police officers, and we lack funds. The idea of having the federal government do it goes down a whole other area of conflict which is a mess. Also, we are a nation that is $20 trillion in debt. I do support taking on the mental health debate, but that is not easy as you are essentially deputizing doctors now. Any red flag could prevent people from owning a gun. I have may red flags on my record but I will never harm anyone. But those red flags could strip me of my rights. This isn't an easy issue to solve and it might be one of those issues we have to deal with. Nothing is ideal and this is tragic, but so are traffic accidents but we still allow driving. I do feel that allowing teachers to bring guns on campus will be the best route as it solves the issue of lack of security due to funds and bodies. But also the left has never proposed ideas that would actually work. Magazine restrictions will not work, background checks already exist, and an "assault weapons" ban would not work as hand guns are just as deadly.

Sure, reloading which takes around a second or two to do may save a life or two, but that is impossible to measure, and at that point you are essentially within error where many variables can play a role if a life was saved or not. The harsh reality is that nothing will make this number to be zero. I am all for reducing gun violence and school shootings, but suggestions made by the left, like magazine limits, would do nothing to make this to be zero. So 15 died instead of 17. What will you be screaming about next? Ban all magazines? Only allowed 6 shot single action revolvers? That is where that argument will lead. If you get your magazine limit law and another shooting happens where 20 die, then what? What law will you push next?

  31. ToxicAudri, murder is still illegal. If someone is going to commit murder to that degree they will find a way. They can use a car or a bomb. The deadliest attack on a school was with a bomb. If they are going to commit murder the law has no bearing on them anymore. They won't care if a gun exist, they will still break it. That is why banning the object is not the best route and why many say it takes guns out of law abiding citizens' hands.
