The deaths are overstated. Also, panicking will lead to worse outcomes.

@blairhaffly1777 I agree. The issue is that people silence each other and that is why we are in the current state we are at. Being honest I have said many times that Trump is not best to be president. I would like him on a cabinet position, but not as the face of our nation. I also said if Tulsi were to run against Trump I would vote for her as I feel a lot of chaos we see now would be gone and Tulsi will lead us well and work with republicans. But again, people are not willing to have discussions. There are legit arguments on both sides. The answer is always in the middle in my opinion.
2
It pretty much is.
1
@brotherbig4651 not true. Autopsy are performed. Deaths are overstated in that 94% who died had underlying conditions.
1
tad562 that is how covid deaths are being recorded in all honesty.
1
@NickOloteo I find it funny how Cuomo gets a pass when he directly did something that killed others but Trump does not.
1
@brotherbig4651 in a lot of cases we do know. According to the University of Minnesota 40% who died were in nursing homes. According to UCSF 50% of new nursing home patients die within 5 months. So here we are around 6 months in this virus. Statistically almost all of those who died in a nursing home would be dead anyway. So yes, we can say that a good portion of those would be dead if there wasn't a virus. That is the overall point. We have plenty of data to weigh out the number of deaths. We don't. It became a hard line. As I pointed out with nursing homes, the data is there. We need to factor in the underlying conditions but we don't.
1
@brotherbig4651 yes. Again, according to UCSF 50% of new nursing home patients die within 5 months. As for my parents and grandparents, that's life. When my grandma was in and out of a hospital and I received the call from my dad when I was at work, I knew what the message was before I picked up, that my grandma was dead. Being honest, it was more of a blessing as her kids, including my mom, had a lot of stress taken off of them trying to care for her. Here seems to be a novel concept to you, but people die. Especially old people. My grandparents are 90. If they died today I won't feel that sad as they were 90. A funeral at that time is a celebration of life. When you consider underlying conditions the death rate of the virus drops. You have to consider underlying conditions. Basically no college students this semester that got the virus has been hospitalized. In fact, many do not even know they had it.
1
@mrm7058 there was a panic. Besides, look at what happened in the US. People fought over toilet paper.
1
@brotherbig4651 My one grandma died at 83. Now what is the life expectancy in the US? At some point you have to accept death. On average 7500 people die a day in the US, many cases preventable. We do not shut down the economy because of that. I attended a funeral of a 5 year old girl who died in a car accident. Guess what, I am not pushing t ban driving. The average life span in a nursing home is around 13 months. In life we make decisions all the time that ends up killing people. 40,000 die a year in traffic accidents. Reducing speed limits to 10 mph will save 10s of thousands. Why don't we? School shootings happen. Banning schools or going completely virtual will stop that. Why don't we? With this virus the economic shutdown there are businesses that will never open back up. Suicides are up, divorces are up, evictions are up, substance abuse is up, antidepressant use is up, etc. At some point we need to think about how what we are doing is much worse than the virus.
1
Carissa Wu more like if the president demands all speed limits be reduced down to 10 mph. Would you support that? Why or why not?
1
@mrm7058 they did. Do you not remember the fights breaking out in stores? Or how anxiety went up? I had a student who was freaking out and almost skipped class. One of my colleagues had a student actually skip class and then complained when she received a zero on the labs. This was before we went virtual. People were acting irrational.
1
@mrm7058 anxiety leads to irrational thought. As for information, little was known at the time. So what information should be given? Fauci was coming out saying over 2 million were going to die. That did not happen. Here we are, though, still acting irrationally. Many people still do not want to reopen schools.
1
@mrm7058 no, 2 million was expected even with the lockdowns. And it is over. Cases are dropping. We need to reopen the schools. Kids need to learn. Also, it is questionable if lockdowns even work.
1
@xavierzabie8184 they are overstated. 7500 die a day on average in the US. Most who died had underlying conditions and would most likely be dead to begin with. Now consider people who are dead because of suicide. Consider people who are in hospitals because of substance abuse. I was talking to my psychologist today and he said that typically he will have to deal with 5 people committed to a hospital when he goes to court. Now it is up to 20. He was telling me how he has clients who are now homeless and winter is coming. Millions of people's lives are being destroyed all for a virus that is not that deadly. You say to stop pretending that lives don't matter. So all those who died from suicide don't matter? Those who are being committed to hospitals due to substance abuse. Those who OD on drugs. Domestic abuse is up. What about all of those lives?
1
@mrm7058 really chances are over half the nation was infected. A Penn State study suggests that over 8 million were infected in March as opposed to the 100,000 that were reported. Cases are dropping. Herd immunity is being met. Remote learning is not ideal. Many kids lack internet access. A buddy of mine was talking about how him and his wife can work at home and have resources to give their kids to learn remotely. They are the exception, not the norm. Many inner city kids lack internet, and computers, and resources to learn remotely. Heck, many college students lack that. When we shut down in March one of my students had to sit outside of the local library, and she could not go in, and use their wifi to take tests. Many places are opening back up with no second wave. It is time to get back to normal.
1
Why? He did not lie and he led us well. You do not want to panic. Sorry that Trump did not act like the media and freaked out.
1
@marketsocialist6421 covid exist, how it is presented is a hoax. It is not that deadly. It is being pushed by democrats to try to make people's lives miserable in a last ditch effort to beat Trump. It isn't working. In fact, as schools are open and football is starting more and more people are realizing this virus is a scam. Because of our actions suicide rates are up, evictions are up, substance abuse is up, divorces are up, etc. I just met with my psychologist and he was telling me all the issues that are going on on how he has clients who are now homeless who weren't in the past, or that more people are being admitted into hospitals. And all for what? A virus that one has an over 99% chance of surviving from? For a virus that most do not know if they even have it?
1
@ThisM4 I did. Fauci said the virus was going to go away. So are you saying Trump should have override Fauci at the time?
1
@lookingforsomething doctors downplay situations all the time to prevent anxiety. You know how crazy society can act. He is being a good leader. Sorry he did not act like the MSM that freaked out saying we were all going to die. You saw the reaction. People went to the stores and fights broke out over toilet paper.
1
rafael obasi Fauci said it will go away soon. Also, you do not want to create a panic. You saw how people acted as soon as the MSM freaked out saying we were all going to die. People fought over toilet paper. A doctor will actually downplay a situation to keep people calm and prevent anxiety.
1
@marketsocialist6421 I can agree our leaders failed. Trump is actually one leader that got it right. He did all he can do with the powers he had. Local governments failed us. In fact, many local politicians used this as an excuse to justify their position. Instead of trying to solve an issue Cuomo gave daily briefings and enjoyed the air time. And then he went on his brother's show and cracked jokes. Capitalism is also not the problem.
1
@blairhaffly1777 other nations have higher deaths per capita. Also, deaths in this nation are overstated.
1
rafael obasi huh? He downplayed it to keep people calm. As Dan Crenshaw said, in the battle field you remain calm to you do not cause a panic.
1
@lookingforsomething a doctor will find a way to keep people calm. Besides, at the time Fauci and the CDC were saying this virus is nothing to be concerned about. What did you want Trump to do? Override Fauci? The WHO was downplaying it. At the same time Trump banned travel with China and was called a racist. Democrats were still holding rallies and Pelosi was saying to go China Town. At this point TDS is strong with people here.
1
@blairhaffly1777 this is a state issue. Every state experienced this virus differently. SD did not close down at all for example.
1
@ThisM4 Watch the youtube video entitled "Tucker: The COVID pandemic empowered mediocre politicians" Early on Fauci said do not worry about it.
1
@marketsocialist6421 our leaders failed us because they are either incompetent or power hungry. I pick more of the latter. Look at how many irrelevant politicians became famous.
1
@ThisM4 in February Trump banned travel with China and he was called a racist. Democrats were wanting to party in the streets of China Town and was holding rallies.
1
@blairhaffly1777 the federal government is there for two things. Deal with foreign affairs and commerce between states. Everything is left up to the states. Trump did his job in banning travel with China.
1
@lookingforsomething The issue with Fauci is that when he got in power he went to fear mongering to stay in power. He shifted to deaths and how we will have over 2 million deaths, he was wrong. Then he said we cannot open up to early or it will become worse. Things were fine. Then cases started going up where Fauci said we will have 100,000 cases a day (we didn't). Now with cases dropping Fauci said we did this all wrong and that the virus is not going away. If that is the case why not go back to normal? Trump banned travel when we had a handful of cases. At this point hindsight is 20/20. That is all you guys are going is looking back when you would have no acted differently.
1
@marketsocialist6421 K-12 education is offered to all kids.
1
@marketsocialist6421 people panic. That is the reality. Look at what happening now with the riots.
1
Prophet who is Thomas?
1
Prophet answer my question. Who is Thomas?
1
@blairhaffly1777 he offered temporary hospital beds in NY and NJ which they did not use. So that is one them, not Trump. The people he allowed in from China were Americans. This is a state issue. Every state is experiencing this differently. Many states have schools open and are allowing high school football to be played with no problems. I never said Trump can't do no wrong. I felt he made mistakes and did things I disagree with. But the reality is that no matter what Trump haters are going to attack him. Prior to the virus Trump was being called fascist and dictator. This was a time to do federal overreach but he did not.
1
Prophet he didn't lie. That is the point
1
Prophet he downplayed it, that is not lying. Even to this day people are acting irrationally. People refuse to open schools despite cases being low. NY has low cases but restaurants are still closed. My state is seeing declining cases and declining hospitalizations but yet we still have restrictions. Finally the governor is allowing bars to open back up in 3 of our major counties. Look at how irrational people are still acting. At my university they did many asinine things. For example, they painted markers on the ground showing what direction traffic should flow. Rather asinine considering how there is no traffic on campus to begin with as over 90% of courses are either online or hybrid. But they wasted time and resources in doing that. Irrational. And who is Thomas?
1
Prophet Fauci even admitted in a paper published in the NEJM that it is no more deadly than the severe flu. And based on what we have seen that is true.
1
@blairhaffly1777 the fact that Tulsi was not invited to the DNC really shows how awful the democrats are. I am not against democrats as a whole, but the current ones in power I am. They are corrupt and dangerous. There are great democrats out there. Hickenlooper was another one I liked. But the party is being led by Pelosis and Bidens of the world. It is a problem. And now Harris is Biden's VP pick just because she is a black woman. Really?
1
Prophet he did not lie. I addressed that.
1
Prophet he didn't lie.
1
@abarkins how did he lie?
1
He wasn't lying.
