Universal basic income is the dumbest thing you can run on.

It isn't a controversial topic, it is easy monetary policy that will lead to massive inflation.

@DanDelos , automation makes goods and services better and cheaper. That is what technology has always done.

@M0ebius , what increases wealth is productivity, not money. Productivity is from people working and producing. Take the extreme case. Say you give 20% of the nation money for doing nothing. Say that 20% don't work at all. The total wealth in the nation is what the 80% produce that has to be spread to the 80% and the 20%. But is that 20% is also producing than the total wealth comes from what 100% produce that 100% ends up consuming.

@megpaul8076 , if we had a UBI program there would be less people willing to work in child care which will increase the price or mean you simply have no place to take your child to begin with.
1
@megpaul8076 , rent control means worse apartments. Where is the incentive to improve an apartment when you can't charge more for rent?
1
@M0ebius , increase in demand for goods simply means higher prices. Why would people work when you can just give them money? Again, take my extreme case of 20% receiving money for doing nothing. The only amount of goods an services available are what the 80% produce.
1
@DanDelos , technology does make them cheaper. Take cars for example, they last longer, get better gas mileage and are safer, all which saves money.
1
@DanDelos , it means there is no desire to have a UBI.

Universal basic income will lead to massive inflation. You are giving money away to people for producing nothing which devalues the money. It is the dumbest thing you can do at the national level.
1
Why stop there? Why not give everyone a car, and house, and a yard, a pool? Why not give them even more things? Why stop at just giving them $1000 a month?
1
What happens at the state level is completely different than at the federal level. Alaska is able to do it because of their oil reserves. Also, they are competing with neighboring states in the national economic system. If UBI is implemented at the national level it will just lead to massive inflation.

@thew0rdsmyth , the people in the military are actually working for their money. And no one is giving money to the rich.
1
@Korean_Autist_AbsoluteMF , not true. Someone who digs holes in the desert is not producing. People in the military are producing for society, that is why they get paid. I, along with society determines what is a job and what isn't. That is how the market works. You do know we spend more on social welfare programs than we do on defense? That is a fact. So what's your point? Also, MLKJ was a preacher who plagiarized his PhD dissertation.
1
@thew0rdsmyth , we can pay the vets more if we cut our social welfare programs. Also, if the military is so poor at managing funds, why do you want the federal government to manage other programs? We don't give money to the rich. And the rich do pay taxes.
