  1. The real issue is what is the government's role in marriage? Gays have always been allowed to get married, the government just never recognized it. Should they receive the same benefits as straight marriages? If so why? And better yet, why do those benefits exist to begin with and have there been ways around any of them? People arguing over gay marriage typically have no clue what the argument is about.

  2. Victor, why do the benefits exist to begin with? When you think about that you should then ask if they relate to a gay couple? That leads to the question of why? Also, one can argue that gay people can get married in a way government will recognize it, it just has to be with someone of the opposite sex.
