Reading the comments I see a lot of uneducated individuals here. States run K-12 schools, not the federal government. K-12 funding is done primarily at the state and local level. This is not going to harm schools. Seems like the K-12 school they went through didn't teach them how to critically think or how government works.

There was no way Sanders could ever offer "free college" without lowering the quality.

K-12 education is funded and ran by the states. This isn't a big deal.

bizzieone Oh, please explain considering how I studied education at one point and worked in it.

celvester allison Nope. The department of education can create federal standards for states to pick up. If the states decided to use them typically the states get money for what are called Title I schools, which are school in low income areas, basically inner city schools. But states don't have to pick up those standards. The federal standards are called Common Core State Standards (CCSS). As is 43 states adopted the standards and 7 haven't. The science standards are called Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Less than half of the states adopted them.

Will never happen.

They do already.

Cisco Blue, what you said is true. What is ironic is that Texas does not follow CCSS.

High Energy Jeb, they can't use tax dollars to fund private schools. What they do is fund a certain program, as in some sort of special education for example. But they don't fund private schools.

The founding fathers would have been disgusted with the federal department of education.

May the Science be with You It is called state rights and the 10th amendment. Study the constitution, the design and the history of this country.

Good. We need to get the federal government out of education. Leave it to the states. Also, what is wrong with child labor? Kyle is being a radical here. No one is pushing for children to work in factories and coal mines. Most problems in education comes from K-12 schools. Funny part is you hear about creationism debates in public schools, never private. You know why? Because those who spend money on their kids want them to get a proper education. Lack of an education degree is great. Education degrees are almost worthless.

FireSprite People need to realize that states run K-12 education. They set the standards and fund the vast majority of schools. How about states do some actual work now.

Sooner Admirer I don't opposed public schools. There is a need for it. I just find it sad that people can't critically think and realize how our government works. I have people comparing defense spending at the federal level to education spending. They are ignoring all of the state and local spending.
1
It depends on the state.

Anyone who will pay to send their kids to a private school will want them to get a high quality education. Look at private school curriculum, it is better than public.
