  1. If we left it to the government this drug will not exist. It isn't that the left is being accused for wanting the government for everything. It is that the left fails to understand that what ever the federal government touches breaks. Most of our problems are connected to the federal government.

  5. +Chris Morse Not really. University professors are well off. Now include tenor then you are fine. And university professors are some of the ones who are on the lower pay scale. Researchers in pharmaceutical drugs are paid very well.

  6. +Pnevma Ton'Dason The responsibilities for an undergraduate researcher is very limited. They are not the ones coming up with the original ideas or calculations, the professor or post doc is (or in some cases the graduate student). That is why they are not paid very much.

  7. +Thomas Goldfinch Actually I am pursuing my PhD in physical chemistry. Yes they pursue the career out of interest of their research, but they also keep writing grants for a reason. They do want money. If not then why don't professors earn only $30,000 a year?

  10. +Equals Four And you feel that the private sector could not have done any of that? Also you are looking at a few success stories, how much is wasted during that time? I personally work in science research and I see quite a bit of money wasted, or not spent the best. You also have to consider that research funded by the NIH is the start, the private sector takes what is valuable from there and then invests to improve it.
