  1. johnny potsmoker, defense spending is only around 4% of GDP and has been falling for years. Social welfare programs make up more of our budget. Also, defense is the one federal program that actually works. But as a whole we do need to cut these programs. We have all become too dependent on the federal government. These cuts will hurt a lot of people, including me. But in the long run things will be much better.

That disease is a federal government with too much power. You have politicians promising you unicorns every year and expanding the budget. Meanwhile politicians get richer while everyone else doesn't. Trump ran on that idea and now he is doing what he promised, allowing people to keep their tax dollars. He is reducing the power of the federal government.

Our GDP is $16.7 trillion. So while yes, their combine GDP is higher and we still spend more. As a percent we are at 3-4% and those countries are around 2.5%. When you look at it like that the difference is not that large. You have to look at stats in the proper perspective. You can't just through numbers out there.
