Son Goli, learn the difference between debt and deficit.
6
Austin Stone, large corporations have more resources to manage higher taxes and regulations. Small ones can't. Herman Cain brought this up in 1994 in his discussion with Bill Clinton. Large corporations will pass the cost onto the consumers, but they don't have to raise prices as much as they have resources to work around the regulations where small ones don't. Policies from the left leads to crony capitalism.
4
Son Goli, you showed me the debt over time. Look up the federal government deficit by year from the same website you are using. Learn the difference between the federal debt and the federal deficit in economic terms.
4
Son Goli, look up the article entitled "Debt vs. deficit: What's the difference?" In short, deficit is one year, debt is all the money owed.
3
Not me. I just ordered two books off of Amazon.
3
Austin, saying that corporations have more disposable income to justify a progressive tax is flawed. That money just doesn't sit in a vault. It sits in stocks and banks and grows in value.
2
Austin Stone, I can read my words. The left supporting a progressive tax is them setting the standard to where you get a tax code that has Buffet paying more than his secretary. Sorry that is too hard for you to understand.
2
The min. wage is why we have these problems. Smaller companies cannot afford a min. wage. Larger ones can.
2
So a business will just hire less employees then. Congrats, now more people are unemployed.
2
Ruben, define a "decent wage". Also, if someone receives welfare they will not be hired by those companies. You are now making poor people on welfare unemployed, congrats.
2
Hewlett, how am I wrong? Also, Son Goli just said the federal debt and the federal deficit were the same thing, but you don't call them out. Nice double standard.
2
Austin Stone, the right wants a flat tax. The left installed a progressive tax. That means that the tax code can differ for different people for different reasons. That is why Warren Buffet pays less than his secretary, you have a tax code with many write offs that favor the rich because 1. they are smart enough to understand the tax code or 2. They hire accountants The right wants a flat tax so that no matter what you pay the same rate. No write offs, no complex codes.
1
Austin, my view of the left is consistent. It is all about making the little guy depend on the government. The left will break your leg and then tell you need healthcare paid for by the government claiming they helped you.
1
Austin Stone, when the republicans were pushing the recent tax bill they wanted to simplify the code and progress to a flat tax. A part of that was taxing tuition waivers that grad students receive. As a grad student I was the only one who supported saying that if you are going to give grad students that tax relief then you set the standard to allow the rich to have tax relief where Warren Buffet pays a low rate. It goes both ways. You create a progressive tax where people are taxed different for arbitrary reasons then you set that standard where you have tax write offs for the rich. I agree, the left wants a progressive tax. That means they set the standard where the rich and corporations pay less where Amazon pay nothing.
1
Austin Stone, so you have no counter argument?
1
Austin Stone, I know the position of the left. It is all about making the little guy depend on the government and catering to special interest groups. They will attack some rich people, but they will cater to others.
1
Austin Stone, a flat tax will remove the write offs as that is what a flat tax is. You say they "help working people" which means you are fooled. They are there for some good reasons but some of them are to cater to special interest groups and the rich because the rich are able to afford accountants. There are many people I know that do not know the write offs they are eligible for.
1
J Hijinks, their solution is reduce regulations and end corporate welfare.
1
J Hijinks, I cannot say the flat tax rate as I have not done deep research in it. To me I support two federal tax codes 1. A tax on the states like we had pre-1913 or 2. A flat income tax with a consumption tax.
1
ILikeMe 123, any purchases will be subjected to the consumption tax. Also, the consumption tax ends up taxing tourists and the rich more.
1
Austin Stone, again, the middle and lower class don't use a lot of their write offs because they can't afford accountants. Also, the write offs are not being abused if they are legal. Blame the law at that point.
1
Austin Stone, it translate to the left supporting the rich because they set the standard for the tax code to favor certain people. The standard was that only states were taxed. Now the right wants a federal flat tax that favors no one. But the left wants a complex code where you have write offs and brackets that favor certain people. Thus you have the situation where Buffet pays less than his workers. The left set the standard.
1
Austin, a federal flat tax prevents the federal government from giving special favors to groups and people.
1
Tucker is correct. The regulations are what create these monopolies. The ultra left like Bernie and his fan base want to make it worse. Small businesses cannot afford expensive regulations.
1
A lot of small companies order from Amazon. Bernie's bill will raise the prices at Amazon or lead to slower services. Also, Bernie's bill means people who collect SNAP will be out of a job.
1
Regulations are the problem. The bill proposed by Bernie would lead to anyone who collects SNAP will be fired. Thus the poor will be worse off.
1
Ruben, the free market can protect consumers from big corporations as well. Regulations just make doing business more expensive so the businesses pass the cost onto the consumer.
1
Bernie's ideas will make the situation worse.
1
The deficit is actually around the normal level.
1
Son Goli, the deficit is usually around 2 to 6 percent of GDP. You have to compare it to that.
1
BernieBro, those polls are unreliable. Bernie has never been subjected to attack ads by the RNC. There is way too much dirt on Bernie for people to vote for him. The RNC wants Bernie to run in 2020 as it would guarantee another Trump victory.
1
Aaron, there is way too much dirt on Bernie. You have the fact he supported Castro along with other communist and socialist leaders. His praise of breadlines. The fact he did not have a long term job until he was 40 and stole electricity from his neighbor. The fact he wants to double people's taxes and feel that a 90% tax rate is not high. Bernie's Medicare for all plan makes private healthcare plans illegal. Rumor had it that the RNC had a folder 2 feet thick on Bernie to attack him with. Also, when Bernie is pressed on the issues he always resorts to talking points. He has no desire to actually have a discussion with people to try to understand their positions. You can see that in many debates. Ranting about free college and free healthcare and a living wage is not going to satisfy people if he cannot answer the challenging questions related to those ideas. If Bernie runs against Trump in 2020 Bernie will win, at best, 10 states.
1
Aaron, there is a ton of dirt on Bernie. That is why the RNC was attacking Clinton and not Bernie as they wanted Bernie to win. They wanted Bernie to run against Trump. In order to pay for his healthcare bill you have to double taxes on everyone. It took a guy from Denmark to get Bernie to admit that. Bernie leaves out a lot on the issues he wants to pass because he knows they are losing positions. I want Bernie to run against Trump. When Bernie gets destroyed all these ultra leftists will hopefully finally learn that his ideas are not popular.
1
Aaron, enjoy losing bud. Bernie will never become president.
1
Aaron, Bernie campaigned hard against Trump and told people not to vote for him. Guess what, he won. If Bernie was so popular why did people go against his wishes and vote for Trump? I understand the political landscape. People don't want to see their taxes raised.
