+TheSnoopy1750 The recession started under Hoover, like one started under Carter. In two years under Reagan we recovered from it. In 8 years under FDR we suffered through a recession.

+Socialist Scholar Recessions come and go. Following WWII we saw recessions as well. Recessions are part of the evolution of the economy. There are times that we go backwards. Recovery is key. After WWII up until Reagan we have had 8 recessions. We just don't talk about them because we recovered from them quickly and we did so with little to no federal government involvement. During Clinton we had a republican congress thus the federal government did very little, just like it did with Reagan under a democrat congress. Thus like how recessions happen in an economy, so do recoveries when the economy is left alone. So to say that Reagan created a bubble is completely false. And if you are going to say that then you might as well be partisan and say that about Clinton.

+TheSnoopy1750 The general welfare clause was to cover everyone. With entitlement programs you are forcing one group of people to give their money to another group. Thus one group of people gains welfare at the expense of others. You may want to study the constitution some more.

+TheSnoopy1750 Plus, why doesn't the federal government fund education? That should fall under "general welfare" according to your false definition.

+TheSnoopy1750 The min. wage was voted unconstitutional before in the past. It only passed later because FDR used the threat of stacking the courts in his favor to get his failed socialist policies to pass. But I guess you never read about that. General welfare means it covers everyone equally. Such as defense. There is a reason why there was never a federal income tax, a permanent one at least until 1913. People didn't want to give the federal government power to unequally tax citizens. It only taxed the states. The federal government has very little, if any control of the people (hints no individual income tax). There wasn't supposed to be a centralized government that controlled the people. Thus medicare is unconstitutional and you are completely wrong on the general welfare clause.

+TheSnoopy1750 Actually no. Most of K-12 funding is done by the states. The department of ed. only gives funding to states for Title I schools if they follow their educational standards, in this case it is Common Core State Standards. Not every state follows them. Around 43 do. In post secondary education there is only funding for low income individuals which, once again does not cover everyone equally (and has led to higher tuition). You really need to learn what is going on in this country.

+TheSnoopy1750 Once again general welfare is providing welfare for all. It isn't holding a gun to a group of people and then stealing their money to give to others. That is welfare for a select group of people that the government arbitrarily calls poor.

+TheSnoopy1750 At the federal level yes, at the state level no. The federal government was not to have control of individuals, they were to deal with foreign affairs and enforce the constitution on the states. General welfare was to cover everyone equally. As I said, there was a reason why there was never a federal income tax for nearly 140 years, and several attempts in establishing one was turned down. Programs like SNAP, college funding and what not are state issues. You may say I am stupid but it is clear you know very little about the government and the constitution.

Medicare is not constitutional, thus it shouldn't be funded. So based off of Kyle's logic medicare should be off the table. Nothing at the federal level is ever determined by the majority. I guess Kyle never studied history or government in his life. Kasich is right on this one. He so far has my vote. And defense spending is constitutional. Once again, read the constitution and learn history.

+TheSnoopy1750 I guess we can vote for Bernie. People are comparing him to FDR. You know the same president that turned a recession into a depression.
1
+TheSnoopy1750 Yes the recession started under Hoover, but every recession before and after that one took around 5 years to recover from. The only exception is the one now and the great depression. Under both the federal government tried to "fix" the economy through massive spending and higher taxes. Under FDR the we should have recovered from the recession no later than 1935, what happened instead? A false recovery due to massive spending and a massive crash causing the depression. It did not end until the war and ultimately FDR's death. You really need to educate yourself.

+TheSnoopy1750 Hoover was gone in 1933. FDR did a lot of what Hoover wanted to do and was president for the final 8 years of the depression. Really, you need to learn some history.

+TheSnoopy1750 And as I said we should have recovered from it by 1935, but under FDR the recession turned into a depression.
