  1. Bill Anderson, Americans don't. Your comment is a major reason why many despise the left. If someone has a different idea than yours to improve our healthcare system or education system you call them a bad person. I want to improve both healthcare and education, I just have a different idea in doing so.

  2. Ok, and? To start, reading the report they don't cite much. Now to be fair they point you to their website for notes, but why couldn't they have listed it in their report? Why do I have to fish for it? It seems like they are hiding things. Next, having rich people in a country does not translate to a bad situation. Compare GDP growth of Norway to the US from 1980 to now. Norway never once reached 5% growth. We reached it many times. Sure the bottom 50% in Europe have around 20% of the income, but if the pie is smaller what is the point? What is larger, 20% of 100 or 10% of 1000? Kyle, once again, being deceptive as usual.

  3. Having a large Mexican immigration rate will cause this. Not saying we should not have immigrants from Mexico, but most are generally poor thus that brings down the bottom 50% crowd.

  4. Jack Daniel, since 1980 Mexican immigrants made up 6% of the share of the total US population to over 13%. Hispanics have a poverty rate of over 20%. The only two groups with a higher rate are blacks and Native Americans. Am I saying that is the only cause for that trend shown in this video? No. But it does play a role.

  5. There is a lot that can contribute to this trend. In one of my other comments I mentioned how we have seen an increase immigration from Mexico where Mexicans have a poverty rate that is higher than average. That brings that 50% down. Kyle leaves out situation like this and make a strong, over simplified conclusion on a complex issue.

  6. The poverty rate for Mexicans is higher than the national average. Stats suggest they are poor. Also, Kyle policies, arguably, make the situation worse for the majority.

  9. Anthony, the Legatum is a private organization and looks like a special interest group to me. That means they are looking for something in any report they do. Looking at their ranking I see several flaws. On healthcare there are many factors outside of healthcare that influence the stats such as lifestyle choices and culture. The same can be said about education. The reality is this, you don't see rankings like these in academics, you only see them with special interest groups and private organizations. Why? Because in academics there would be so much scrutiny that it would never get published. You really shouldn't be in the business of comparing the socio-economic success of countries if you lack understanding of statistics and blindly follow an arbitrary ranking by a private organization.

  11. Anthony, so the AEI is bad but the Legatrum Institute is good? I never said the AEI was good, I am just making a comparison. The issue with data is that there are many ways to look at it. For example, with life expectancy, if you remove car accidents and murders the US is number 1 in life expectancy. The US has higher obesity rates than European countries which hurts any numbers related to healthcare. On education our society focuses on other goals. For example, in S. Korea they do well in education but that is because they send their kids to private after school programs to study. Our kids, after school, do sports, work jobs or play video games. I would say the US is not healthier than Scandinavian countries, but that is not because of our healthcare system. When we spend over 40% of our food dollar eating out and we have higher obesity rates because people refuse to eat healthy that is an issue of person lifestyle choices, not a particular system. But go ahead and blindly follow the list of some private organization that you have yet to give their credentials.

  12. How is pewglobal relevant? And are they unbiased? In the US we have had, since the 1980s, a large influx of Mexican immigrants. Mexicans have a higher than average poverty rate. Don't you think that holds down the numbers in the US? The US beats many Nordic countries in productivity and we are number 1 in R&D in healthcare and technology. But you will ignore that as well.

  16. Cynical Criminal, again, that is subjective. You grew up in that situation and know nothing else. Same with people in the US. Citizens in the US had a chance to get universal healthcare in many states and every attempt has failed. In Colorado 80% said no when put up to a vote. You saying America is a 3rd world country shows I cannot take your comments seriously. If I need water I can walk down the hall and get it from a fountain that fills my bottle automatically. I don't have to walk in the heat and get disease infested water from the river.

  18. Wish I was sleeping, there are many metrics showing the US is on par with Scandinavian countries. You can't quantitatively measure happiness which is why it is a irrelevant metric to use.

  20. Lj Cf, I can counter this. 1. Reading the report they cite nothing. They point you to their website causing you to go on a scavenger hunt for the facts 2. Pointing to percentages is flawed. What is higher, 10% of 1000 or 20% of 100? 3. Since the 80s our rate of Mexican immigrants has increased. They are generally poor. Adding a large portion of poor people in our country will drive down that bottom 50%. It is easy to counter these points with facts, but many ultra leftists hardly listen which is why they continue to say "fuck the rich".
