Comments by "whyamimrpink78" (@whyamimrpink78) on "GOP Relaxed Chemical Plant Rules, Now They're Exploding Due To Floods" video.
KYDAC Daily, leftist feel the government is full of magicians that control everything. They feel that all the government has to do is write some laws and magically things will happen. Look at their healthcare ideas for example. To them all government has to do is pass single payer and everyone will have high quality healthcare at a a low price.

Jrsydvl, you are displaying some high level of conspiracy here saying this " Also, the company running the plant lobbied against safety regulations. " So a company is not going to push for a design that will prevent these explosions? Remember, businesses want money and they want their company to do well, not explode.

Solexx X, if a nuclear power plant goes array then that leads to a lot of nuclear waste that will make an area inhabitable for at least decades. That is why they are constructed the way they are. These are chemical plants and designing them the same as a nuclear power plant is not economically feasible. You can only prepare for the extreme so much. Compare it to this, we can lower driving deaths by a lot by limiting how fast cars can go to 30 MPH and double walling gas tanks and limiting the capacity to 5 gallons. However, doing so will hinder productivity and waste fuel. The same idea applies for these chemical plants. Floods like these are rare thus you can't build a plant for something that might not happen. Another comparison is 9/11. Why didn't the engineers build buildings that can withstand a plane flying into it?

Jrsydvl, reducing the speed limit will mean people will have to commute longer. That is the drawback. Instead of taking 30 min. to get to work they may take 45 min. Now that many not seem long, but that is 30 minutes a day, over 5 days that is 2.5 hours. It adds up. Now how much is wasted because of that? With safety features, we are getting there, but it is expensive. I can't afford a new car like that. Many can't. On nuclear power plants, they are working on recycling waste, however it isn't that easy. Separation of the f-elements is challenging and expensive. People are working on these projects, they are not easy. We do need more scientists but right now people do not pursue those fields.
1
Jrsydvl, those laws exist but we do not enforce them because of lack of cops. So the best option to guarantee lowering traffic accidents is to limit the speed of cars to 30 mph or less.
1
Jrsydvi, I agree, drunk drivers can run down people at that speeds. So why not put breathlyzers in every car? If you don't plan on drinking and diver than you have nothing to worry about. Just blow into it and start your car. Also, at 30 mph you can limit deaths by a lot. We can also make cars much heavier so if there is an accident there is no damage.
1
Jrsydvl, than how about we ban driving? Or create walkways over streets so people are not crossing the street?

Regulations have nothing to do with this. These floods are not that common and this is nothing more then a tragic disaster.

Optimus Fine, at what point are regulations no longer necessary? That is the issue. You leftists scream "regulations" but never question any of them. These regulations is where crony capitalism comes from.
1
Optimus Fine, private companies have not power. All they can do it offer you a job and/or a product. The government has power to force you and companies to do things. You give the government to regulate then it has power that can be bought. So while you are cheering for the government regulating something that is supposed to protect the consumer, corporations are paying no taxes and getting bail outs after failing.

puncheddoggy, the educated that are leftists work in academics. However, when you look at academics and look at the STEM fields, the ration of democrat to republican supporters are much lower. The reason why is because in those fields it is more fact based. The problem with academics is that they are people who are experts in their one field. People outside of academics with similar degrees are right leaning. Around 30% of CEOs are engineers, who do you think they support? In my experience in my doctoral program you have two types of doctorates. Those who are experts in their fields and nothing else, and those who have a deep understanding in their field, but now experts, but can problem solve in other fields as well. They are more diverse. The former group works in academics and lean left due to their ignorance in the world outside of their field. The latter of the two lean right.

Geeky_Girl, chances are Keknology went to a public school since 90% of students do. Remember, they also voted for republicans last election. So do you really want socialized schools? Or do you want indoctrination?

Mary, Texas has a strong economy. For every disaster the left digs up for "lack of regulations", people an find many examples of too many regulations hurting businesses. It goes both ways.

Trent, high IQ does not mean you are actually smarter. There are other ways to measure it. People who earn a higher income usually vote republican. There is a correlation between income and intelligence . Also, what is your measurement in intelligence? Answering test questions or being productive? Just looking at IQ does not give the full story. Finally, most people are moderates. Few are fully "liberal" or fully "conservative". As Anthony Scalia said, no one is fully a strict constructionist, not even him. Many people are all over the place on the political spectrum. You can look at my IQ where I am a PhD candidate in physical chemistry and may see it is pretty high. On the issues I am moderate overall. But depending on the discussion I can be leaning right or leaning left. So saying that "libs have a higher IQ" is actually a very asinine and ignorant statement to make. I come here constantly destroying arguments and talking points leftist are making.

Trent, on crime, a "red state" and "blue state" is again vague. Even CA which is considered to be very blue is red in many places. I was in Quincy, CA the other day and it is very conservative. Also, that link looked at mainly the Obama vs McCain election. There is a lot more to politics and policies then just that. They also looked at income but did not look at cost of living. But again, most people are moderates/independents. To place a political pulse on crime is rather foolish.

Don't worry, just let the government take care of everything and people won't have to think. Left wing moron
