  1. Beyond Fables, to start there is no clear definition of a "assault rifle". Having a hand grip, which actually makes the gun safer, can make a gun a "assault rifle". Next, many people own guns for sport, why take that away from them? What is the use of drinking alcohol? Many get drunk, drive, kill, beat people, etc. What good comes from alcohol? To me it is relaxing. To some shooting is relaxing. Finally, gun ownership is a fundamental right to control the government. While the chances are low we will have to fight tyranny, the option should always exist. It is why we still have nukes, other countries have it so we should always have it just in case.

  6. Etham, two things 1. You don't ban the item, you punish the person. Murder is illegal, drinking and driving is illegal, owning a car is legal, so is owning a gun and a tank. 2. People own guns for many reasons. One is sport and entertainment. What is the use of drinking? I do it to relax but drinking has led to people beating spouses and killing on the roads. Why not ban alcohol?

  7. Kang, guns prevent a police state. You are looking at individual cases with police with people who are actually committing crime most of the time. And even after a cop shoots someone there is still a justice system in place. When government starts attacking us in our homes with no justice system than we can fight back.

  9. JustinUchiha, the argument of "guns serve not purpose but to kill" is poor because there are many things that arguably serve not purpose in life such as alcohol and smoking. But yet we allow it. Alcohol, one can argue, makes people beat their wives and drive drunk. Why not ban it? However, people drink it for fun just like they shoot for fun. On gun laws, we have them, and gun murders have been dropping for years. If you look at gun deaths we have 30,000 in a country of 320+ million people. In reality that is small, especially when you consider how 2/3 are suicides. That leaves around 10,000 that aren't. Out of that many are gang related which are isolated. Now my question at that point is how do you make that 10,000 go to zero? At that point you are asking how do you make the murder rate go to zero? There is no answer. Thus to me there isn't a major problem.

  14. As far as other regulations go, ones proposed would not have prevented this shooting or any others. In fact, NV passed an expanded background check law recently. This regulation is directly related to this shooting. For example, leftists call for more background checks on guns after Adam Lanza steals one from his mother. How is that related to that shooting?

  15. I would like to see a list of countries with 100+ million people and their crime rate. There are 13 countries with that many people and the US is number 1 in GDP per capita. For crime, looking at a quick list, Brazil and Mexico are higher than the US. Same with Pakistan, Ethiopia and Nigeria. You are right. With our size 2000 is a very small number overall.

  22. sprybug Ok, how about this. We make abortion legal, we just ban the tools and drugs to do it. Or we keep driving legal for people with DUIs, we just ban them from possessing cars. The point is murder is illegal already, why prevent law abiding citizens from owning guns? You are punishing people who did nothing wrong.
