Louisiana is not well known for education, as a person working in academics for a living and talking to several other professors there is a reason why LSU and Louisiana are having a hard time bringing in professors. While I was looking at graduate schools I got accepted to 2 universities in Louisiana, my boss at the time told me to stay away. My current boss turned down a job to LSU due to the culture of Louisiana not promoting education. By the way, LA has a history of democrat governors.

Cap Iolani The football program isn't going anywhere, it is one of the few programs in the country that makes money.

Vedavyas Munugoor You can't compare use to other countries, we are completely different in several ways. The worse thing we can do is compare us to other countries.

TEQ Reloaded There are a lot of anti intellectuals coming from large cities. The most amazing thing I noticed moving from my home town 2000 miles away is seeing how ignorant people are about the rest of the country.

TEQ Reloaded But you are alluding to that most in rural areas are anti-intellectuals which isn't true. Living in both a rural area and a city i feel that the ratio is equal, if anything there are more ignorant people in cities. There are a lot of smart people in rural areas. There are a lot of smart religious people in rural areas. To me most of the anti-intellectuals come from the west side of the country from the major cities if I had to take a stance on where they come from. But overall I would say the ration is equal.

TEQ Reloaded The city offers more opportunity but that doesn't mean the brightest resides there, or that a lot of ignorant people live there. Living in a city now I have seen way more ignorant people then I did in a rural area. Seeing people walk in the middle of the road, or ride their bikes in the middle of the road. Or drive a hybrid vehicle on a highway and not getting enough speed in time and causing an accident. In a city I have more things to do but the people are just annoying and ignorant. In a rural town they are laid back and quite intelligent in many ways. The only reason why people go to the city is for the opportunity, but the city draws in a lot of ignorant people as well and from my experience more than the rural areas.

In the history of this country we have seen several recessions. All but two lasted only around 5 years and did so with little to no federal government support. The two that took the longest to recover from were the great depression and now. Both of those times occur during a time when the federal government tried to "fix" the economy. There is a strong correlation there. Funny how Kyle compares us to other countries but doesn't compare us to ourselves.
